- I'm not going to be requiring any background story stuff, but I will still give the +5 extra for doing it anyway
So, if I play AJ, and Magman plays Tulk, and LabRat brings in Anya (or a renamed version) and WxMAN brings in Zenneth (and I still dig that name), we all get the points since we already have backgrounds, right?

I did say that knowing they all had backgrounds (and more) already

- It's likely that the crew will start with a stake in "the Bar" (Hard Vacuum)
Steg should be running the bar now following an incident that left Anson incapable of doing so.

Or Ted Glick had to leave (or take a side job, school , etc) and Anson needed a new bouncer

So I did some thinking this morning and I think I've come up with around 3 character concepts. The problem is, I am not entirely sure which one I want to play. I could have fun with all of them. Figured I would wait till next week before deciding, but I may as well put them up here to see if these would or would not jive.
1. Battle Medic- You already know this one. Basically she's done a lot of active duty, seen some stuff, and was honorably discharged and retired. It took her all of 5 minutes to realize that retirement does not suit her, so she's looking for a change. She's a good doctor, but she's more than likely will give you a shot of whisky and tell you to rub some dirt in it before she would give you an ounce of sympathy. She would also be pretty loyal to her crew and would be willing to thrown down if someone tried to mess with them. She's a mother hen with a cut-the-crap attitude and knows her way around a weapon.
2. Gun Runner- More like 'ex' gun runner. Gun smuggler that was almost too good at what she did. Now she's laying low to get some of the heat off of her. Would serve as the gunner/weapons specialist. Would have underground connections for weapons and the like and would know about a specific section of the black market. Probably had some loose connections to Tulk and/or his operations, so that could be a segway in there. Even though she likes things that go boom, she wouldn't be a short fuse, trigger happy, gun nut. In fact, I was thinking one of her quirks would be something like "safety first" and would encourage other's to "respect the weapon" and make sure that their safety is on when not in use...that kind of thing. However, if you come to her with a problem...well, there's a gun for that.
3. My turn to play the "thrown down the badge" rogue cop. Thinking I would play some sort of detective that is searching for...something (ala Miller from Expanse series). She finds it advantageous to team up with the crew. Advantages would be the ins and out of law enforcement, some access to certain systems or information (though would probably not be on the up and up), potentially some people who are still loyal to her that are still in law enforment, and would have detective skills. She could lend aid in diplomacy if needed. Also would be good character for potential plot points or story ideas. Downside would be figuring out an active role on the ship.

#1: I'm less concerned about this than I was—maybe it's just stated the right way #2: Good fit #3: Would be problematic as a cop, but would be a good fit as an ex-cop PI, or maybe bounty-hunter/skip-tracer
As far as the role on the ship goes—it's actually not as important on a small ship like this. They'll end up doing "everything else."

I have a character concept ready, I'd just like you two GURPS gurus to help me build it out as y'all have a ton more experience in knowing what I would need to put points in and whatnot to make an effective character for this campaign

What books should we be looking through?

What books should we be looking through? Hard question to answer accurately—depends on what you're trying to do. That said, it wouldn't hurt to be more familiar with the 3e GURPS Traveller book.

General Point-of-Order: As I've been working on organizing things, I've started trying to sort out who the specific "major players" are going to be in the campaign—and it occurred to me that it might be beneficial for you guys to have your say in who those will be. In the Dresden stuff, this is the "Movers & Shakers" part. I'm not necessarily talking about specific individuals—though it can be—and I don't require anything more than a vague concept. Who do you want to be up against? Who do you want to come to your aid? Who do you want to help? Secret Gov't Division? Workers' Union? Local Kingpin? Local Law-Enforcement Corporation? EvilCorp™? Rogue AI(s)? Psi Corps?
Some obvious choices are in your characters' backstories—the Rivals; IBM—but they don't have to be the focus of the whole thing, rather than a recurring obstacle.
Anyway, it's not something I can't do myself; I just wanted you to have a say. The floor is open.
As an example, the story of The Expanse (from my series-only perspective) seems to be driven primarily by the three major gov't powers, Earth, Mars, and the Belt (OPA)—and possibly an EvilCorp™. Firefly and Serenity on the other hand—looks like the only "major player" there is the Alliance gov't.

I'd like us to get sucked into ducal politics which, from our perspective, would probably be rival governments given their effective level of power. But I say that mostly cause I've done only a cursory scan of how the aristocracy works in the Traveller verse.
I like the Expanse example: have three major gov't powers - Duke #1, Duke #2, and Other (which could be Sword Worlds?) - with three EvilCorps™ in the middle while bashing out their own issues.

For the record, as we discussed: the major players in the DSD story will be "underworld," less-than-legal organizations/entities. This will occur against a backdrop of nation-level and "ducal"-level intrigues.

Been thinking about maybe doing a little game-fic/play-by-post (like Chronicles of Trent); might be a good way to get things moving and get acclimated, and feel out the character(s). Other than Rigil, I figure LabRat would be the best candidate—most prone to prose here. If so, I'd expect to take a long time with it, so no need to feel rushed. Spose there's no reason I couldn't take Trent's a little further, also/instead. No ideas yet on story; that depends on who decides to have a go. Just a thought, anyways.

I'd be willing to give it a go, but not while I'm GMing Casus Belli. I keep having to remind myself to think about the Friday game after I spend all week trying to work on adventure stuff for Saturday.

Knowing that we're two to four sessions from this, what is needed by the GM for this? We've got characters at least laid out, but I'm guessing we want to spend some time reviewing and adjusting.
