Round 3? Gonna re-tool a bit…but actually, probably not very much. - We'll keep the "troubleshooting" company as-is, the location(s), the apartments, etc.
- Instead of a typical mytharc/BBEG/etc., we'll just be doing something more episodal, at least for starters—more like a persistent Car Wars kinda-campaign with GURPS mixed in. Think Traveller sandbox.
- Will likely feature more Car Wars than the original plan—by popular demand
Due to the retool, the previous characters may need a slight rethink in some cases—plus the last time we touched this was 2012 . The main thing to (re)consider is whether or not your primary character (or more) is a "driver" (and if so, driver of what?). The next thing is whether or not any/all of them are "pro/semi-pro" drivers expecting to compete in tournaments—it might be ideal if one of them is, at least (which was true of the original bunch), so we can occasionally play out matches (w/ the other players playing the competition). I intend to keep the "secondary characters" concept, as well, but I may keep that more "voluntary." If you start rethinking characters, I might remind you of one of my original ideas for the campaign: using existing cinematic characters refitted. My original thought was to do the Serenity crew, but more recently, The Expanse came to mind. Also thought about not restricting them to the same source—so you could end up with Solo, Mal, and Holden (which would be hilarious ). In any case, pay attention to the story you want to tell with your character, because that's going to be (and always is, technically) important.

I still sort of like my previous character concept - the former gang-member turned veteran who is now secretly an investigator for a government agency who is undercover - and think I'll likely stick to it, which allows someone else to take the roll of the tournament-competitor. Obviously, I'll have to have some driving & gunnery skills, but I think my guy should remain mostly intact as-is ... although I am very tempted to mix a bit more "Raylan Givens" into him...

Something we can start thinking about is the vehicles. What I'm thinking at the moment is to keep the standard TL9 Starting Wealth ($50K?), and reversing the 80%/20% rule—80% to "adventuring gear," which would include the vehicle—and allow "Trading Points for Cash," and allowing for purchasing "used" or whatnot. Probably need to review price differences between CW and GURPS UT. Anyway, if you've downloaded the CW book, you can dig through the samples, and get an idea, at least. But there are a lot more in other sources if you want to dig around.
After this week, if you've got some vehicles in mind, we can start using those in CW.

How much money do I save for weapons if my car doesn't include brakes?

How much money do I save for weapons if my car doesn't include brakes? The savings in equipment cost and insurance-denied are probably made up for in speeding tickets and accident liabilities.

I like my character concept, so I'd prefer to stick with it. Also I know I'll need a car with a laser turret at some point

General SITREPMy objective is to have enough ready to run (something) on a moment's notice. The Car Wars part doesn't require a lot of prep. Don't technically need characters, even, though it won't be "accurate" without them. What we will need, though, is cars—and given the monetary conditions required to facilitate that, we will need (some) GURPS character work to be done—at least enough to determine how much money you will have available for purchasing gear. When it comes down to the actual cars, I suspect we're gonna need to discuss that a bit, since you guys don't really know enough about what's available to make a good decision—though you may know enough to start asking good questions, at least. The more we do on the boards, the less in-person time we have to devote to non-gaming. Here's where we stand, WRT characters: - Rigil = ManShep (ex-cop)
- ShLE = FemShep (courier/driver)
- N8 = Wrecker/Repo-man
- McN = Tulk (hacker-type)
- ChrisIV = unknown
- Xeno = in or out?
I meant to make the GURPS Autoduel (3e) book available to everyone last week. You're gonna want that. Right now, especially, you'll be wanting to look at the character archetypes for building suggestions. The background details aren't as necessary right away—we'll fold that in as we go, I think. But I've started filling out the wiki with the stuff we've already worked out (some of which is pretty thin at the moment). Ditto with the "company" details—though there is one question we need to establish more-or-less immediately: where the PCs are gonna stand on the "vigiliantism" issue. (PCs are typically pro-vigilante, but I don't want to assume.)

GURPS Autoduel (currently; still waiting on character stats)] Whose character stats are you waiting on? (and frankly, why does it matter if a character is statted out as far as prepping to run the game?) I have one complete character (Rigil's—as usual). I have two characters with background (The first 90%), but no stats (ShLE/N8). I have one "probable" character that may only need adjustment (McN's). I have one-or-two with nothing at all (ChrisIV/Xeno). I have a number of backup PCs that need to be statted, backgrounded, finalized, or nixed. My objective was to be able to play at a moment's notice. Without character stats, it can't be done. I don't need stats to prep, but it would be a lot easier to sort out something like an Enemy if it's not added at the last minute. Plus there's the issue of whether or not anyone is going to be a pro-duelist, etc., that definitely needs to be hashed out beforehand. One thing unique to this campaign is that I need to know about the vehicles—and I do need that for prep. I've not heard a peep from anyone on this.

I probably need to rebuild my PC in GURPS terms. What do you need regarding the vehicles? I think, if I have to pick one, I'm likely to just use the Death Race "hero car"... (although preferably with a bit less rust...)

I probably need to rebuild my PC in GURPS terms. Should look at the archetypes in Autoduel 3e What do you need regarding the vehicles? We've discussed this in pieces here and in-person, but some of it may be new. See here for the wealth settings. A few things are needed: - Decide how much is going to be spent on vehicles (which will be affected by character stats)
- Decide what kind of vehicle (FREX Rigil was talking about a "grasshopper," whether or not it was serious)
- I was expecting/recommending you would pick an existing model (and modify as needed), in which case you need to know what's available—which is the hard part, really, but needs the above first

Giger - I have two Autoduel PDFs. One is "first edition" which has an image of a guy in the center, gun being held behind his shoulders. A "second edition" which a car with flames shooting at a fuel truck.
I'm assuming we are using the "second edition"?
