Okay so from what I need from the player is what period after the Great War would you like your story to take place. I've thought about three options and would appreciate some insight so I can flesh out the campaign based on your preference. I've written a blurb on each time period so that you can get an idea of what to expect.
Near-Apocalypse- This would probably be the game's "hard" setting. Takes place shortly after The Great War (less than 50 years) in the middle of nuclear winter. Biggest threat is radiation and just surviving. The interactions of the Vault would take center stage and would be used as a central hub as long term exploration would be essentially out of the question. This would be more of a mirco setting (think urban environment) with just interactions in your immediate area. Don't know if this would be the most "fun", as this would be a rather lethal campaign. Post-Apocalypse- This is more how I imagine Fallout 3 would be. About 200 years after The Great War, the landscape is just starting to heal from radiation, but the environment is going to be your biggest adversary. Survival is going to take more of the spot light here. Most people are either nomadic or set up in small settlements, but there will be a few power players. This campaign will probably be centered around a single goal in mind that would help the wasteland as a whole.
Post-Post Apocalypse- This is several hundred years after The Great War. Larger factions are able to form, and political intrigue would definitely take more of a center stage. There will be a lot more people, and settlement interaction. The idea of surviving the environment would take more of a back seat (doesn't mean it wouldn't be a harsh wasteland). I think this time period would be more like FO:New Vegas where your actions in dealing with one faction would influence your reputation with another and you'll have to do more managing with enemies and allies.
So think it over, and let me know if you have any questions. Expect more information in the upcoming weeks as we get this vault door rolling!
