So, there exists the possibility that Xenocore might not be rejoining us (note I said possibility, not certainty) which leads me to a question: whose in charge if Augur is away?
I'm leaning toward it being Ondo since neither Brody nor Jor are a leader types, and nobody is gonna take orders from a droid. We still don't know what kind of character our resident weatherguy is gonna play, so I'm not taking that into account. Must admit, removing the Super Charisma guy has some ... interesting implications for the future of the crew. Heh.
Another question for the PCs: since this is intended to be a sort of anti-hero game (with the PCs playing bottomfeeders like the Serenity crew), what is the one thing that your character will not do, no matter how bad the situation is? There needs to be a line that he (or it) simply will not cross, so what is that line?

well...i would assume that assassination would be something that comes to mind ... but why wouldn't our leader be joining us?

You may not think that this would be in character since you think that he is a Jane type. But here it goes his crew mates are as close to family that he has (would never admit it). Brody would never rat them out in fact he would give up his life for them and again (would never admit it). Hope this works

Oh, it works. Its that sort of thing that helps define a character better, and I like the idea of Brody being all gruff and Jayne-like, but then refusing to betray his crew because they're "family." Good job.

To me, No-Bark is unwilling to kill "innocents", though I am planning on rolling die to figure if No-Bark sees a specific troupe/person as apart of the "conspiracy" as he sees it... With it being less likely for a joe-schmoe to be part of it, and increasingly likely for military/political people to be part of it... He is also extremely distrustful of any force users, and has a bit of a 'distorted' (then common) view of the Sith and Jedi - so Ondo needs to tread carefully around him as far as revealing his true nature...
No-Bark would likely be rather loyal to the crew - so long as they are keeping him safe and haven't been "influenced" by the conspiracy... though I think I would put him in the camp right now of a person who thinks they know the truth and is trying to save the universe by exposing it, and therefore he thinks "the ends justifies the means"
Good enough?

Nate wanted me to answer this question even though I touched on this a bit when we were creating Tesla's character. Anyway, for reiteration... Two things come to mind of things that are out of line with Tesla's character. First would be that she wouldn't betray her crew. The insight is that at best she refers to this crew as her new family and at the very least she views the member to help her in obtaining things of interest (whatever that will be). Now, I bet that in light of recent events she will be a bit careful in trusting them in return and she will certainly retaliate if someone were to back stab her first. But she will certainly not be the instigator. Second thing she would probably do is not harm people that she deems to be outside her current mission objectives. Like I said before she wouldn't grab someone's loved one for torture to intimidate them. Now would she take out important trading partners to try to ruin someone? I wouldn't put it by her. Also, I know you project her to be the new "face" of the group because she has persuasion but keep in mind that she's not going to do the job very well. I specifically built her with the intent that she wouldn't be a silver tongued devil. We wouldn't be able to talk ourselves out of anything and most dealings will probably end in a brawl than civil negotiations. Plus she's kind of aggressive and mad at the world right now due to her betrayal so she will only put up with so much b.s. before she turns over tables and pulls a gun on people. From our talks earlier, you expressed interest in the party not having a true face so that it would be more difficult to overcome diplomacy obstacles, quite like the crew in firefly. Guess your wish is granted...lets hope the rest of the crew is well armed

Yup. Also, I know you project her to be the new "face" of the group because she has persuasion but keep in mind that she's not going to do the job very well. Oh, that's definitely kept in mind. From your description of her, I see Tesla as someone who doesn't suffer fools easily, and the art of diplomacy is doing that very thing, so I'm totally on board with her making an initial, half-hearted attempt at being persuasive, then switching promptly to "do it or the angry-looking guys behind me break your kriffing fingers." So yeah, it's gonna be fun! Thanks all!

"Fringe Benefits" (season 2? Sure, why not.) is on the horizon, so we need to get everything finalized. All players should check their character sheets (I still need Tesla's equipment to add) and the Resources spreadsheet (let me know if you can't access it.)
"Shiny. Let's be bad guys."

What is that that I need besides a character sheet and dice

Post by Rigil Kent on Mar 9, 2011 9:39:59 GMT -6
A fistful of dice and a pocketful of dreams ... which I can dash upon the rocks of hard luck! <Cue Maniacal Laugh.>
But seriously, I just wanted everyone to take a look over the character sheet, maybe compare it to the ones they already had and see if there are any discrepancies. As we've discovered with WxMAN, the new(ish) character sheet weirded out when changing the quantity of medpacs (made his attack bonus -2 instead of the +7 or +8 it was supposed to be) and totally screwed up his Deception skill.

All of you should have received an email inviting you to Fringe Benefits on [ObsidianPortal]. That is me - I'm experimenting with it as it will be a nice way for me to create docs and stuff for you guys to read (like the holonews!)

So, as some of you may have noticed, I've been updating the adventure log page with "news entries." I plan to continue doing so as the game progresses, but the cool thing about that page is that the players can also add pages, so you can have "log entries" or random fluff as appropriate. You can also Comment about the latest entry, perhaps if something is unclear or you have other questions.
I've also been slowly but steadily updating the Wiki pages with character appropriate information.
Feedback, people!

Feedback:
Its really cool and I appreciate all your hard work on the campaign to make it more 'life-like'... now I kinda feel bad having a 'joke' character... being crazy and all, I don't want him to distract/ruin the campaign

|
Post by Rigil Kent on Mar 28, 2011 14:09:35 GMT -6
Nah. Not gonna happen (hopefully.) Maybe that can be a plot development for him - he realizes that he's crazy and wants to get better?

|
Post by WxMAN on Mar 28, 2011 15:26:16 GMT -6
Yeah, I think I will turn down the crazy a bit and stay more quiet - until spoken to - to keep things 'realistic' feeling and to not annoy the bejeezus out of you and the players...

Okay, a quick reminder. No, next week is not the first game (since zenwolf won't be available and, at least for the first ep, its essential that all of the characters are present), but some notes nonetheless. A lot of this is going to sound like I'm being overly restrictive or outright repressive ... but so fricking what. Seriously, I'm just trying to lay some groundwork : - Refresh yourself about the House Rules in effect. I added some "Table Rules" to that page that everyone needs to be aware of; they're not there to be mean, but to maximize table time since our group has swelled in number once more. I will be enforcing the Rules Challenges listed due simply to group size. That's simply too many people involved to get bogged down with rules arguments/discussions. With GURPS, it was a necessary evil because, as gigermann pointed out, the entire point of that was to get really familiar with the system, whereas SAGA is ultimately d20 and I'm going for a more cinematic feel. Don't care what the rules says: when I make a ruling, we're just going to move on.
- Refresh yourself on your character ASAP. Find some way to keep everything in mind - maybe a crib sheet about what your talents and feats do - I have zero desire for an encounter to grind to a complete halt because Player X doesn't remember what Talent A does and has to spend twenty minutes to an hour looking it up. Again, that Player's Aid PDF in the House Rules section will be pretty helpful.
Also, a quick reminder about the Adventure Log section at Obsidian Portal - any player can create an entry there and I recommend you all find some way (if possible) to participate. Whether it be a personal log or the SW equivalent of an email your character sends, please participate.

We're in the final ramp up. Please ensure that you've (re-)familiarized yourself with your character and are good to go.
Remember: Game BEGINS at 1900. If you have stuff to get taken care of with your character, better get there early...
