Mechanically, Fast Talk is an attempt to influence someone—in this case, I presume it's to convince Betty that the situation isn't as bad as AJ thinks it is—and is opposed (typically) by the opponent's Will. In this case, she's probably going to be using Body Language, which AJ knows is pretty good—AJ knows he's going to have to be pretty convincing, and he probably doesn't know what his own tells are, enough to defeat her in that way.
Having established that, if he's still going to try, I'll roll for her—he might get lucky. OTOH, just lying might tell her what she needs to know anyway.

Yeah, well, I figure that he's still in a mild panic mode and is trying to be the Strong, Silent, Leader-type who takes on all the weight of the world so his crew doesn't have to. So yeah, I'd say roll for her since he's trying to Fast Talk his way out of this (but, as we've said, he kinda sucks at lying.)

Per your request yesterday, AJ's current load-out is light: - Laser pistol, holstered at the small of his back.
- Nanoweave bodysuit underneath his clothes.
- Knife, sheathed in his left boot.
- Mag boots (of course!)
- Clothes.
- Wallet equivalent.
If you recall, he gave Bella his slugthrower earlier "this day" and I made a point of stating that his wristcomp was still in his duffel bag ... which he left at the office.

Never did finalize where it was that AJ was headed, here. There was some earlier talk of him going to the dojo, which was to be in a neighboring block—don't remember anything else.

Yeah, the dojo/gym is the plan. I suspect it is within close walking distance to the bar so he has someplace to flee to when the alcohol is flowing too freely.

Figure that's at the gym, in a locker. I guess if you think it's important, we can presume he is carrying the duffel bag, which would include the gym stuff.

I think I need to make another Observation check based on most recent prose installment. Correct?

OK. Is there some way we can get a better grasp of the bar? From the pics, I get a general idea of the bar layout, but what direction is Trent coming from? How many exits are there? Are there any secondary rooms? Multiple levels? Does Anson live there? For that matter, do you intend for this to be a nonlethal engagement?

On the top image, the "red wall" to the left turns to the right, leading to the foyer, which is the "red" area in the external shot. Behind this red wall is storage and office stuff, restrooms, etc. No balcony—don't recall if I declared that there was or was not one in The Sabo Affair, but I do recall the front door being the only way out. There should be an emergency exit; it won't open from the outside, and it will set off an alarm if opened. Anson doesn't "officially" live here I have no public "intention" as to the lethality of the engagement

OK ... AJ's plan is thus: Sneak (untrained. Ouch) into the bar and, if these guys are doing bad things, hit the fire alarm, which should trigger a station alert and activate the suppression system. He's going to have the las-pistol out, but will only shoot if he's engaged first.

Quickie map of the bar. Note: There is an overhead walkway at the back, but it's probably only accessible through the offices.

OK, so where would the "fire alarm" be?
And what is an untrained Stealth check?

OK, so where would the "fire alarm" be? And what is an untrained Stealth check? 1) I'll give you a 50/50 chance; 1d6, even=favorable, odd=unfavorable 2) DX-5 or IQ-5

OK, per our convo, restarting this to get us to the actual mission.
Per previous roll, the fire alarm is located in a favorable position. I'm still planning on trying to get to it, but am also planning on taking a shot at the overhead lights in the hopes that this will cause the momentary panic to cover his mad dash toward the fire alarm. I'm also hoping that they will all focus their fire at AJ rather than Anson or Ted.
Dunno about the range though. We'll have to apply that and the size modifiers of target to the roll.
Beam Weapon (pistol) skill of 12, with a +1 for laser sight (oh, so ironic, that), gives me skill of 13. Here goes nothing.

Vs [dice=6][dice=6][dice=6]=6:-2 Which just goes to show that, even with an amazing roll, working from the default isn't the best option Partial Surprise means that the combatants will be making an IQ-check per turn to snap out of their shock, at +1 per subsequent turn; 50:50 on the first, for average types. "Freeze," however, isn't so literal—they'll be able to do stuff, just not anything useful; probably ducking the sparks and whatnot Combat Time; make it count—probably should make this a separate thread, at least, if we don't go with FG as suggested [rand=0051206391484652781874072377556648349255284713818174089697620238034]

AJ's basic speed is 5.75. Who goes first? Typical Mook-types. You'll be going first. Refer to the above map-image if you need direction.

Move: 5 yards forward to the wall.
Might be a good idea to tweak the image and show me where the fire alarm is.
