Krognar Drein
Raised in a small dwarfen settlement in the mountains of The Iron Peaks, just to the east of Ravenmoor, Krognar followed in his parent's steps - one of the town guards, protecting the settlement from passing barbarians and the constant threat of marauding orcs. While town life provided some mild opportunities, most residents had only meager possessions. In the center of town is a shrine to Iomedae, the chosen deity worshiped by many of the citizens, though in the barracks there is also a small statue of Cayden Cailean which is prayed to for bravery before the beginning of each of the town guard shifts.
When Krognar turned 50, orc attacks on the town had began to increase in both intensity and frequency, leading to an exodus of dwarfs unable or unwilling to fight for the town's safety. Battles against the orcs slowly devolved into a war of attrition, each time fewer dwarfs and less recovery was left before the next attack. After weeks of attacks, it slowly became apparent that the town was lost - a retreat was ordered and Krognar along with two dozen fighters fought their way to freedom and set off to each make their own way in the world.
Krognar ventured south, through the Malgorian Mountains and Galduria, finally ending up in Sandpoint, doing free-lance work as a fighter. While a generally peaceful place, Sandpoint appreciated Krognar's abilities to defend areas, especially those on the outlaying parts of the town. The farmers paid Krognar with a place to stay, food, and alcohol. After a particularly harrowing defense of some farmland, the farmers held a celebration in honor of Krognar. This was quite the event for Krognar, as he had never experienced 'fame' and its powerful allure in any way. Almost overnight Krognar began to change; while still protecting farmers and being a generally good person, he started to fight so he could celebrate and be the 'hero'. Victory after victory, Krognar drowned himself in more and more alcohol, until he became nothing but the town drunk. The only time he fights now, is when he has run out of money for liquor.
