I'm going ahead and starting this process a little early—the characters haven't fully materialized yet—but I figure those of you who typically enjoy participating in this sort of thing might provide some inspiration to those that don't. Plus, it'll help the creation process later to sort out the background elements. I expect to see where & how they grew up, family & friends, career situations, etc. (think 3x3 if you like). I do not expect to see what happened the night before the event, or what they're doing in Chicago (if they aren't from Chicago)—that's going to be a separate question.
Furthermore, what you set down here will not be "locked in" until the campaign is imminent—in the event you change your mind about something.
Official: +3 CP for participation

John Noqed - born in Tel Aviv, parents died when he was 10 thanks to suicide bombers so he moved to the US to live with his mother's family. Joined US Army at 17 and has been infantry for 10-12 years (hence, E-6 or E-7 rank.) While in Iraq, was captured by insurgents who discovered he was both Israeli and Jewish, so he had a ... difficult time before his unit rescued him. As a result of this, he's likely claustrophobic with some minor (-5) flashbacks. Family: - Anastasia ("Nastya") Rostov - cousin. Of an age with John, they grew up together and generally treat one another like siblings rather than cousins. Nastya is a single mother - her baby daddy turned out to be a piece of crap who knocked her up and then left. She currently lives in Chicago and is the reason John visits that city.
- John ("Johnny") Rostov - Nastya's six year old son. Named for his "uncle." He looks up to SSG Noqed as a Heroic Father Figure, and John does his best to live up to this.
- Eli Noqed - John's paternal grandfather. He is an old school IDF hard ass who may or may not have worked for Mossad. At GM's option, he may be in the States when the invasion begins.
Friends- SFC Billy Hogue - John's platoon sergeant. They've known each other for their entire careers, having gone through Basic and AIT together.
- 1st Lieutenant Roberto Martinez - John's platoon leader. The LT was captured alongside John by the Iraqi insurgents, so they bonded over torture.
- Hollis Williams - John's "brotha from another motha." Best friend in high school, Hollis (John jokingly calls him "Holly" because he knows how much it irks his friend) is now pretty sketchy about what he does for a living, prompting John to suspect he's either a drug dealer or an undercover cop.
Foes:- Jack R. Daniels - Nastya Rostov's "baby daddy" and a general POS. John knew he was bad news just from the name itself. After the jackass broke Nastya's heart, John paid him a visit and broke Jack's face. As far as Noqed is concerned, it was an uneven trade. He should have broken limbs too. He also sincerely doesn't care what Daniels does for a living, as long as he doesn't bother Nasty or little Johnny again.
- Saleem - full name unknown. The ringleader of the insurgents who tortured John and LT Martinez, he's also the only one who survived (somehow.) John has no idea where the guy is and kind of hopes he took a round to the face.
- T-Dog - local gangbanger and drug dealer who harasses the people on Nastya's block. John has had a couple of run-ins with him that didn't end well.

Foster Williams - Born in Denver, Colorado on June 22, 1980 to Sean and Mary Williams, middle class suburbanites. Considered 'gifted' his entire life, father's teaching background and mother's love for space gave him a great interest in astronomy. Family trips were typically out to a cabin in remote parts of Colorado where the family "lived off of the land (hunting & fishing)" and did stargazing. Was heavily bullied in high school, and was kicked out following an incident where Foster shot numerous students with an "improvised firearm" which Foster claimed was "non-lethal" and in "self-defense." Foster was home schooled from then on and later was accepted and went to UC Berkley for college. Received PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics, & Quantum Physics, from CalTech. Currently lives 'off the grid' in a remote part of Colorado while still doing 'contract work' for the Department of Defense.
Good enough or do you want me to do the whole 3x3 thing?

Alexandria Lance-
Born to a hard working middle class family Alex spent her early childhood relatively happy. It changed when her father decided to start dealing controlled substances on the side to earn some extra income. Unfortunately his undoing was that he got addicted himself and used enough that he wasn’t able to pay his suppliers. This caused them to lose their house and move to the slums of Englewood in south Chicago. It was at that time Alex was exposed to the wrong crowd and grew up doing petty crimes. She had a moderate rap sheet and spent more than her fair share in Juvie. Her parents pretty much let her do whatever she wanted as they were too busy worrying about their own lives.
When Alex was 16 her boyfriend Daryl, then 20, asked her to bring her family car around because he needed a ride. After a time Daryl asked her to stop at a particular residence. Without a word Daryl took a pistol from his dufflebag and left. Several shots were heard and a short time later Daryl came back to the car and told Alex to drive home. While driving, Daryl told her that if anything happened, as far as he was concerned, she was never there.
Alex in her naiveté believed him and so never said a word. A short time later police took her into custody to question her in the murder of Earl “Big E” Jones. Her car matched the description of the getaway vehicle and they already has Daryl in custody. She denied ever being there or having any information as to the killer of the victim. Meanwhile during questioning Daryl was given a deal. He would receive a lesser sentence if he would identify the female that witnesses claimed was driving the car. Tempted he fingered Alex and claimed that she was also in on the murder of “Big E”.
Combined with her previous juvenile record and the fact that she remained silent during questioning, Alex was charged with Accessory to Murder. At 17 she was tried as an adult and sentenced to 7 years without parole. Daryl has his death sentenced reduced to life due to police cooperation. He will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years of his term.
Alex has now served her term and is currently living with her Aunt in order to get back on her feet. She has little contact with her family and is now focused to becoming a working member of society.
3x3
Family
-Aunt Suzie- Primary caretaker of Alex who lives in McKinley Park. She is the closest thing to a mother Alex has ever known. Susan works as RN at a nearby hospital. She never married but still took it upon herself to give Alex a home after she got out of prison
-Jack Lance- Father to Alex, was once a decent construction worker until he started entertaining the idea of dealing drugs to make some extra income. Broke the unspoken rule that you never try your own stuff and is now in and out of prison usually for possession or the crimes he causes when going on a binge.
-Carla Lance- Mother to Alex and sister to Susan. Was once a retail associate at a more upscale department store until her husband started losing money which forced them to move to the slums. The best way for Alex’s mother to deal with their misfortune is to crawl into the bottom of a bottle. Since then she has hardly been a parental figure to Alex.
Friends
-Officer Patrick Quinn- Officer Quinn is an Irish Chicago native. He took it upon himself to serve as a moral pillar for Alex when she first came to the big house at 17. Their relationship grew into one of mutual respect. Respect for Officer Quinn for not being a typical “pig” and respect for Alex who is open to reformation.
-Rebecca Norman- Acquaintance soon turned friend in the penitentiary. Rebecca is considered a matriarch of the penitentiary, serving time for forgery. Besides what landed her into jail in the first place she has relatively been a good influence on Alex. She gets certain prison privileges for good behavior.
-Lizzie Reece- Alex’s long time childhood friend. Alex and Lizzie tried to keep in touch after Alex moved to Englewood but after a time they lost touch with one another. They were recently reunited after Alex got out from prison.
Foes -Daryl Cox- Responsible for her jail sentence. Currently serving a life sentence.
-Heather “10x” Williams- Adversary during Alex’s time in prison. Heather is quite simply a bully. She got the nickname “10x” because its joked that she thinks she’s ten times larger than life. Naturally she would set her crosshairs on Alex when she first arrived.
-Terrence West- Jack Lance’s friend, who ultimately was the bad influence that led Alex’s father to start using drugs. Usually when Terrence came to town, Jack would normally wind up in jail the next day. Kind of an indirect foe but certainly a force that causes disruption in Alex’s life.
