History of House Ridgewood: House was founded over 400 years ago when a young knight on guard duty noticed the shadowy enemy approaching. He darted through the castle and alerted the king, narrowly saving his life. The Rigewood's have been the "Eyes of the Realm" ever since. House Ridgewood was a powerful house with close ties to the King until one of the King's advisor's convinced him that Lord Ridgewood was too powerful and attempting to usurp him. The King sent "The Blackheart" to capture the seat of House Ridgewood and to slay Lord Ridgewood and any who stood in the way.

Character Background:
Silas was born the fourth son of Aldus Ridgewood. He was exceptionally intelligent and was reading by the age of three. Aldus and his wife brought in tutors from all over the world to try and keep up with boy's prodigious appetite for knowledge. One such tutor was a mysterious old man named Xen'dala from across the great sea. He sensed the psionic potential within Silas and began to instruct him in the deeper mysteries of the mind. Silas began to have nightmares and strange visions from time to time and Xen'dala was eventually sent away, since Silas' parents believed the old man was causing them. Before he left he secretly gave Silas a crystal. It contained teaching and perhaps something more...
The Ridgewood's are largely a martial family. Silas was never particularly good at any of it, though he did seem to be a reasonably good shot with the crossbow.
One day a great army rode against the castle. A knight in coal black armor with a red demon painted on his chest led the charge. It was Istaros Balon, better known as "The Blackheart" Silas' mother and father were slain along with two of his older brother's. His remaining elder brother, Titus, was injured and captured. Silas and three of his sisters managed to get away with the help of some of the servants.
They fled to his uncle(on his mother's side) Tordane and his castle to the south. They made it safely with little incident. Silas wanted his uncle to war against the Balons for their treachery, but Tordane did not have the forces. Instead his uncle agreed not to take arm's against the Blaons and to forswear the Ridgewood claim to their ancestral seat in exchange for Titus' life. This infuriated Silas and he grabbed up his belongings and left that night under the cover of darkness. With the Balons holding Torret Keep, and without the Ridgewood's manning its fabled watchtowers, the entire realm was in danger. He swore he would have his revenge on House Balon and that he would take back Torret Keep. Despite his frustration, he was no fool and did not charge straight into battle with the Balons. Instead he knows he must gain practical experience through adventuring so that he might one day fulfill his vow.
