For 8 Aug 2012 Session:
Guards are incoming... It seems we have two choices:
1. Cheese It! (Self explanatory)
2. Hide where we are. The room we are located in is hidden, they would have to find the secret door that we found in order to get to us... we could just keep hidden in the "throne room" until the heat dies down... I doubt the guards are going to go through and check the place all that well...
Also, Rigil, when did you want to do the magic item identifying stuff?

2a. Wait for guards to come in, and leave through the window
I vote 2, or 2a

Hide where we are. The room we are located in is hidden, they would have to find the secret door that we found in order to get to us... we could just keep hidden in the "throne room" until the heat dies down... I doubt the guards are going to go through and check the place all that well... I think what you actually mean is to retrace your steps to the "throne room," closing the secret door along the way. Currently, you are in area G18, which which is how you were able to see the guards in the first place. And while I am neither encouraging nor discouraging this plan, there does exist the possibility that the guards actively search G19, the room of veils, and discover the secret door, at which time you will be trapped in a room with a body in it. A body that was clearly murdered. You may very well be correct - they may not bother checking closely since there are obviously other things going on around the city that are likely more important - but keep in mind all options. As soon as you have time to sort of relax and focus. So not right now. Your adrenalin is still pumping.

The fire in the curtain-room will discourage guards lingering to search too thoroughly—OTOH, it will expedite our need to retreat as well. We could always put out the fire, and (Jareth) tell them we saw the fire, and jumped to the rescue

I think what you actually mean is to retrace your steps to the "throne room," closing the secret door along the way. Yes, that's what I meant - my brain got fuzzy too by the end of the night and I forgot where we saw the guards... there does exist the possibility that the guards actively search G19, the room of veils, and discover the secret door, at which time you will be trapped in a room with a body in it. A body that was clearly murdered. Yes, I didn't mean to entirely discount that possibility, it is definitely worth the thought as to whether or not it would be worth the risk... As soon as you have time to sort of relax and focus. So not right now. Your adrenalin is still pumping. Yeah, I didn't mean now I just wanted to know if you wanted to handle it in game or offline... The fire in the curtain-room will discourage guards lingering to search too thoroughly—OTOH, it will expedite our need to retreat as well. We could always put out the fire, and (Jareth) tell them we saw the fire, and jumped to the rescue Yeah, thinking about this a bit more I am concerned about just how quickly the fire will spread... and looking at the area, we only tell) one way in or out of the throne room area - not something I am particularly fond of if the guards find us, or if the fire spreads too quick... Perhaps if the guards come we could bind ourselves in the corner and pretend to be hostages? Though, again, one way in or out does not make me happy...

Yeah, thinking about this a bit more I am concerned about just how quickly the fire will spread... and looking at the area, we only tell) one way in or out of the throne room area - not something I am particularly fond of if the guards find us, or if the fire spreads too quick... Perhaps if the guards come we could bind ourselves in the corner and pretend to be hostages? Though, again, one way in or out does not make me happy... - If the fire isn't extinguished, it will spread to neighboring buildings, and it could consume the entire area—lots of wooden buildings (I was hesitant to do that in the first place, for this reason)
- Does the city guard have a uniform?
- The tied-up ruse would require the entire group to "act"—not something the entire group is reliably capable of. Which isn't to say it's not possible…

Does the city guard have a uniform? Yes.One advantage to hiding is that, as you've had firsthand knowledge of, the Guards are probably too busy to spend a whole lot of time searching a stupid gang hideout. There are many Old Noble Houses here in Old Korvosa who are frankly more important. And look at that! I straddled the issue perfectly and took both sides!

Strangely enough, with an odd number of party-members, we have equal Good, Chaos, and Neutral. The Good will want to put out the fire. The Chaotic will want to leave it to the townies to manage. Who wins, then?

Maybe I am not thinking about this in the right way....
Risk v Reward breakdown time...
Why would we want to stay hidden? Loot! Possibly find more info about the Green Daggers and their connection with Gaedren Lamm...
Any other reasons?
As I ponder the situation more and more I am beginning to like the option of running for it better... I just don't know how much could be gained compared to the risks of being caught... I'm especially concerned the fire may make the secret door null and void if the fire spreads and begins exposing it...
Which isn't to say we can run for it and keep a watch on the building for when the coast is clear and go back in to raid it....

I think we've found what we're going to find already I am beginning to like the option of running for it better... I don't think the question is a matter of "if," so much as "how." To that end, letting the guards come in, and going out the secret window seems the safest option (and Val will probably do that, regardless).

Wait ... what window are you talking about? The one you saw when you first entered the secret passageway? Not everyone in the group can fit through that - neither Aria nor B.A. are thin enough (given their respective STR and CON scores), and that doesn't even factor in the armor they have.

With a ST of 18 and a CON of 16, "svelte" is not the word I would use...

What about the place we came in through?
Also, I do have ghost sound and wall of smoke to cover our tracks if need be, but that's about it.... I'm plum almost out of spells... 2nd level chars weren't meant for 5 encounters in a day...
Also, Aria, I think he is calling you a cow...

What about the place we came in through? Most of you climbed up to the roof, then down onto the porchway. The dwarf has even more trouble. As does anyone with ST and/or CN scores of greater than 17. Because they're solid with muscle.

Any reason we can't toss a rope with grappling hook to the roof from the porchway and go back down the roof the same way we originally came up? The dwarf has even more trouble. Any reason we can't toss a rope with grappling hook to the roof from the porchway and go back down the roof the same way we originally came up? Large metal grilling that serves as a "wall." You can easily see through the gaps in the grill, but fitting through is not going to happen.

Are we even talking about the same thing? If we can't fit everyone through the window, we have to leave the same way we came in. Rope up, rope down. That, or go past the guardsmen.

Depends. You might be seen by Guards outside during climb up to the roof and then down to the ground. And B.A. actually came in through the front door.

Yeah, I didn't mean now I just wanted to know if you wanted to handle it in game or offline... Totally didn't see this comment. We can do it online with the caveat that you don't know what this stuff is until after the Guard thing is resolved (which shouldn't be a problem unless you guys decide to cut your way out.) Do it this way: Spellcraft Bonus: +XX Name of Item: [dice=20] Repeat as necessary. I'll update the sheet then.[rand=692188553744927781777733238413935573326842859399793669073842466]

Anyone with a high enough bluff/diplomacy...maybe we can say we happened apon the gang fight near its conclusion, and went in to try and break it up...while doing so we were attacked during which the fire was started (only person knowing how it was started is val) and were attempting to put it out when the guards showed up?

Putting out a fire is a basic civic duty—that one will probably fly. Breaking up a gang-fight is not—that's guard business.

For Rigil: Did we happen to notice if one of the guards was Alister Jenkins?
Also, just how bad has the fire got? I don't know what kinda of firefighting tools we have, but I am guessing not much and I don't know if we could put it out anyway....

For Rigil: Did we happen to notice if one of the guards was Alister Jenkins? The way it ended, you simply saw a squad of Korvosan Guards on approach. So, no: you haven't seen Private Jenkins. It's containable. It's mostly just the veils burning - the fire has produced a lot of smoke but hasn't yet spread to any of the wooden support beams.

Oh, man, B.A. needs only 88 XP to level. Maybe next week! Also, there was some remark about "going back to get B.A." after the escort mission is over. I don't see any indication that you left him anywhere. It went: - Go to Castle. He stayed outside with your weapons.
- Get escort from Castle to Guard HQ. B.A. - and your weapons - rejoined you here.
- From Guard HQ, proceed north and encounter the Mob.
- Session end.
So as far as I can tell, B.A. is with you; he's just been uncharacteristically quiet. @ WxMAN: You indicated that you wanted to converse with the five kids - heh. Someone said this was them going to Hogwarts, so they are officially Harry, Hermione, Luna, Malfoy, and Ron circa the first movie when they were so fricking young - where Sir Galad can't hear you. How are you planning on doing this? He will be keeping an eye on you (since you're obviously a mage of some sort) ... although to Jareth's interest, he (like Lady Sabina in the Castle) keeps giving Aria one of those "I know you..." looks...

Go to Castle. He stayed outside with your weapons. This is so not how I remember it happening. As far as I was aware, he didn't come along at all to the castle.

GM Fail, then. That's how I remember it. No, you didn't necessarily fail. That is how I remembered it as well. I just thought that there was a period after meeting with the queen that we sent B.A. home for some reason.
