Looking at Fighter, Polearm Master archetype, at the moment; a bit of a mix of Perseus and Achilles (Greek influence, obviously)
He was born on one of the smaller outlying Elslaynian islands. His mother was the wife of a fisherman. His father was not her husband, but one of her husband's employees, the fact of which she went to great effort to hide. It was discovered, however, resulting in much strife between his parents, but his stepfather would not risk the loss of her family's patronage to put her away, so he endured the shame in silence.
His stepfather was often victimized by unscrupulous Orleeans illegally fishing their waters, always afraid of escalation, to the point of near-paranoia; the islanders were weak, and he knew the Orleeans lust for their territory would end in bloodshed. He saw Theokritos trained in the arts of combat as well as fishing, destined to one day take over the family business and beat back the inevitable attack. Theokritos idolized his stepfather, and did his best to learn the trade.
When war finally broke out, he joined the navy. While away, his stepfather's fears were finally realized as the Orleeans captured his home-island. Once Theokritos heard of this, he went AWOL from the navy to go home, to help fight the invaders. He arrived too late; his stepfather was a pillar of the resistance against the Orleean occupation, whose public execution inspired the islanders into finally overthrowing their captors—though the invaders were gone, his family and business were ruined.
Now, with the Treaty signed and the war ended, Theokritos wants nothing more than to get far away from Elslayne, lest he be caught by the navy and punished for his desertion.
