I'm considering having "assigned" seating mostly for initiative purposes (so, if a fight starts, I always start on my left and go clockwise.) In that chase, it would be (based on Basic Speed, starting on the left):
Character Advancement
I'm considering bringing back the "roll 10x on this sheet" thing for secret rolls. More on that as it comes.
Pretty much all GURPS books are available for use, but should be okayed with me first. I'm not planning on getting too in depth with the stuff so expect some level of cinematic elements in play. That said, I just know Giger is wanting to break out some technical grappling or tactical shooting - as long as it does not bog the game down to a halt and you grok what is going on, just go for it and tell me what I need to roll. Let's make this a cooperative thing.
I would like to say "let's have no phones" at the game, but evidently, that always falls on deaf ears or is roundly ignored and is probably not feasible. Let's please at least try to keep it to a minimum. I'm as guilty of it as everyone else, but nothing is quite as irritating as the GM trying to accomplish something or move the plot forward while Player X is showing Player Y something funny on the phone.
Finally, the usual thing about "who gives a frak what the rules say?" applies. We have a terrible tendency to get bogged down in rules minutiae (regardless of system) and GURPS has a (deserved? unfounded?) rep as being very crunchy. I'm planning on making a judgement call and move on, even if someone (Giger) knows he's read a specific rule about something in one of the books.
I think that about covers it ... for now! Biggest goal: everyone (including me) have fun.
- Giger (so he'd sit where he normally does)
- Budah
- Magman
- MikeE
- LabRat
- Unlike a D&D group, I fully expect the characters to be all going their separate ways for considerable periods of time during the game, so don't feel like you have the figure out a way for all five PCs to go talk to Suspect X when logically only one or two PCs should go.
- Because certain situations/encounters might only have limited PCs available, I plan on using the other players to run various NPCs (whether those NPCs are local cops or the bad guy opposition, etc.) I'm going to try my best to keep everyone involved in some fashion.
Character Advancement
- I am planning on awarding 1 CP per session for anyone who is present.
- At the conclusion of each session, each Player should review their character; if they believe they've played "in character," they will take 1 additional CP. Yes, this is using the honor system and I expect most of the players will take that CP, but I would at least like you to take a moment to review. If nothing else, this will allow you to go "Oh, crap. I did have that stupid skill!"
- Each session, there will be a bonus CP awarded to one character. You guys (not me) will decide who that is and how you decide is up to you. It can be "man, XX was awesome tonight. S/He deserves the point" or "I feel really bad for YY who rolled nothing but 18s all night, so here's a pity point."
- I am also planning on awarding bonus CPs during play when the moment strikes. If a PC is exceptionally well played (in-character, for example, even when it will hurt), I reserve the right to say "Here. Have a bonus CP." This is also the case if you stump me with a completely out of nowhere idea that makes sense in the context of the character but derails (hopefully only shortly) my plans.
- And finally, a bonus of 1 CP is awarded to characters who actively participate on the Portals or provides me awesome photographs and/or locations. I will award those at the beginning of a session.
- There is also time use and training - I will spin up a Google docs thing for that (or might just task Giger to do it since he's better at that than I am.)
- Regarding character point expenditure, I'm pretty lenient here. Providing it makes sense for your character to possess a skill or talent or advantage and you have the CPs, I will generally allow you to purchase it on the fly. There are obviously exceptions to this, of course - declaring that you inexplicably possess the Surgery skill is a bit much. Use your discretion and logic, please.
