We need a track with like oil slicks that come up randomly or ramps... risky shortcuts! Artillery fire!

SourcebookI'm making the PDF avail here (temporarily) so you guys can have a look at it over the week. I'm considering a "persistent" sorta-campaign. Everyone will start out with a bankroll—I'm thinking $30K—and a character (or team, if it's a 2-seater), and you can pick a stock vehicle from the book, and upgrade it, plus get personal gear, etc. I'm not decided on skills and such—will have to refresh my memory on that. Then when we get the opportunity here and there, we'll play for prize money and/or salvage as appropriate (which you'll inevitably blow on repairs ). Should probably be working toward a Gold Cross policy, too (cloning—basically, an extra life). Of course, I'd remind you of the GURPS campaign—those are certainly legit characters to use here. More on that later… Anyway, I'm fudging a bit here. I'll give you more details if you have questions I can answer.

I think there is really something here with a car wars / mad max style campaign if you want it... I've been having lots of fun for sure and it seemed like everyone else was as well

How would you go about doing a "cooperative" game with Car Wars anyway? The GM just drives all of the bad guy cars?

That's what I'd assume... the interesting thing with this kind of combat (similar to mech or spaceship combat) is just because you "lose" the fight, your character may still be alive but with a useless car which may invite interesting "quests" to replace failed/destroyed parts: spending money/robbing rival gangs/etc

How would you go about doing a "cooperative" game with Car Wars anyway? The GM just drives all of the bad guy cars? Basically, yes. Not that unusual. I think there is really something here with a car wars / mad max style campaign if you want it... I've been having lots of fun for sure and it seemed like everyone else was as well Regarding this and the aforementioned elaboration: Now that you guys have a taste of it, and proper context, I thought it would be a good idea to give you the opportunity to change your minds about my next GURPS outing. The Autoduel campaign was #2 in the voting. For the record, I was going to end up using Car Wars for the vehicular combat stuff (with a bit of GURPS crossover—they actually work together fairly well). At this point I don't have really anything in mind for a major story arc, but I've been thinking about keeping it that way—keeping it small-time—at least for a while. (Kinda like season 1 of Justified with its "bounty-of-the-week" format).

Also? I totally vote we give the motorcycle to N8. He absolutely won't die in a fiery explosion straight away!

I second (maybe thirded) Autoduel for #1. It was super fun to play and I think with a bit of a nudge we could slap a really simple story arc onto the system and then go bananas. Heck, even if you told me that we would just play car wars for 12 weeks I would be happy.

Asking the question again, now that Mark's had his free taste… Persistent quasi-campaign. May overlap GURPS Autoduel. Previous discussion indicated people were more interested in doing some "street" level stuff—fighting gangs, doing courier missions, etc. We'll need to decide what sort of starting bankroll you guys want (bearing in mind that car prices are mostly equivalent to modern). I've got access to a veritable crap-ton of existing models to choose from and modify. (We can talk about self-designed stuff down the road.)

Persistent quasi-campaign. May overlap GURPS Autoduel. Is this meant as a "fill in" campaign for when there are people missing or "hey, let's play this for a couple months" type of thing? I'm cool with fill-in, though as you and Rigil are essentially never gone and when we're missing CJ, we tend to play the normal campaign anyway... thoughh Labrat and I tend to be missing together which is when the fill in campaign would be being played so... I wouldn't get to play it anyway If it is a "let's play for a couple months" that's cool too, though I wanna throw my hat into the ring for Kingmaker as I'd like to get the campaign completed before 2025 as it is hard enough to not be distracted by a new shiny, not that anyone here would ever have that happen to them

I think the answer is "yes"—though I don't have any specific plans, and don't intend to cut in on anyone else's campaign (I realize that means it may be a year before an extended run happens).
