Chapter 3 in the Kingmaker module will kick off where Chapter 2 left off: namely, that y'all are in a cave, standing over the body of a Kellid beastmaster. The rotting body of an owlbear guards two dead baby owlbears as well as single alive owlbear. There are the bodies of a dozen bandits near this body as well. Y'all will need to decide what to do with the young owlbear - as I know at least one of your party wishes to kill it, so prepare your arguments if you want to keep it alive (and vice versa). Back home, the Owlbear left a trail of destruction which was being worked on when you left - though it will need some building point expenditure in order to fix everything back up. One thing I'd like to focus on is making your Kingdom feel more alive and central to the story. The Shiedlands is a burgeoning kingdom, and your choices have already set into motion how it will develop and feel. I want the decisions you make, both explicitly and implicitly with your kingdom and its denizens to have a more direct impact. This is why I have been asking y'all about character goals and motivations - so I can help bring those out in the world and give you opportunities and obstacles in pursing them. I am also wanting to try to incorporate some new ideas (for me) that I've picked up from GenCon, podcasts, reddit, etc. I don't know which will work, not work, or some of both. The primary additions you'll immediately notice are: - Pre-Rolling Dice - for "hidden rolls" this way things like perception, sense motive, trapfinding/lock picking, etc aren't called for where, obviously since you're rolling for something, means something is going on, even if you fail. This means you'll only know on these "rolls" if you succeed, otherwise the story will just go on without even mentioning it. I will collect 10(?) dice rolls and then randomize where they are put in, so you'll have no idea which roll is good, bad, indifferent for each check.
- Passing Notes - I am going to have some 3x5" cards where a character may get or request private info, actions, etc.

The problem with passing notes is that everybody knows when it happens. One solution I've thought/heard of: give everyone a card at the same time; although everyone knows someone got a message, they don't necessarily know who.

If we just used fantasy grounds at the game, solves the entire problem.

If we just used fantasy grounds at the game, solves the entire problem. Easier said than done. I've used FG at our F2F games and it actually turns out to be more of a distraction than a help because, as the GM, you get locked in on "I need to use this properly..." when you actually don't. We're all competent enough to know when to mock someone incessantly for passing notes to and from the GM...

Actually, if I was going to do it digitally, it'd be one FB messenger, but not everyone uses a laptop on the game.

I know Tess is on the "pro murder innocent baby owlbear" team. That is correct. Tess isn't stupid...well, you know what I mean. The baby owl bear can't survive on its own. And we have just seen what one can do if it falls into the wrong hands. Our settlement is in shambles, people have died, and she's rather pissed off. Better to put it out of its misery now than to let it starve out in the woods by itself. Or better yet, kill it, roast it and use it to help feed some of our people who have just lost everything

Walker is of the opinion that the lone Owlbear baby should be left alone and let nature take its course.
Can't cell phones also used for FB messenger? If so that that would solve the problem.
I cannot say for sure that I will be there on Friday but I am going to try.

Walker is of the opinion that the lone Owlbear baby should be left alone and let nature take its course. Walker would know that just leaving the baby Owlbear in the cave is likely a death sentence as it is too young to of learned to hunt. Just making sure he understands that, I am not trying to convince you to intervene or not to intervene.

What do I know of Owlbears? That would be a Knowledge(Arcana) check for anyone who wishes to make one and has it trained as a skill.

I was deferring to Walker in case he wanted to roll it. But since he doesn't have it:

Babus should have it as well, being a wizard. Babus doesn't scry here often , but you're correct. Apparently Owlbears are a passion of Tess' I will message you what you know about them, and let you determine what you will tell everyone - though Babus and/or Walays may know what I am telling you as well.

So did we just level up at the end of combat to level 7? If so does that mean we are starting off with our 6th level characters since we will start in media res?
