Hey folks, this page is being set aside so those that are interested can participate in the pre-production for the "SHOW."
Just to share my background when it comes to Star Trek.
I am an AVID fan of the show. I like the setting and the plot development, but the entire utopia of humanity stuff is the farthest thing from my mind. Conflict drives drama. Setting also extremely tertiary, but I prefer the newer trek settings to TOS.
OK, so. The plan is as follows
1) One of the PCs WILL BE THE CAPTAIN. I do not intend to run any command staff as NPCs. All the following roles need to be covered. I will have my hands full managing everything else. One character can cover more than one role.
CAPTAIN XO Security Chief Engineering Chief Medical Chief Helmsman Weapons Officer Science Officer Ship's Consular / ERA DEPENDENT Communications Officer / CAN BE NPC if not enough, its practically a robot if nobody is playing this character.
2) Ship type dependent on type of campaign. The ship you guys get will depend on what style of game everyone wants to play. We can actually worry about the details later, as that is part of character creation. but if everyone wants to do THIS instead of THAT, its better you have the ship for that task.
That's all I have for now. Please announce your buy into the game below by posting your intentions and wants for the "show" in this Thread.
Thank you,
Xenocore Executive Producer, Unnamed Star Trek Project

What system is this in?
I tend to be questionable at the beginning of each semester until i figure out if I'll be overloaded - and if so, obviously I can't play.
Any particular "feel" for the game, as typically each star trek show had its own flavor. My personal ranking being DS9 > TNG > VOY (I haven't seen the rest)?

Okay ... but why roll20 instead of just F2F? I'm about 100% certain the entire face-to-face group would be willing to playtest this with you on some Friday...

I would do it this evening, but no one online or off line is usually available during the week. 2) I didn't want to interrupt an active game on Friday when we are ready playing something else.

Well, now that we have the community calendar handed out to everyone...
Who is game for the test next week? And what kinda flavor are we looking for?
Who needs the book? digitally, its pretty cheap.

Ok guys, first test session is done. Consensus seems to be that the game is enjoyable and may be used as a game in the future. Kewl.
Shall I put this particular set of ideas to bed and start anew, (not that we have done that much so far...)
Opinions? I am not married to any ideas.

I'm willing to give it a shot if everyone else is. Seems like its something different, and I'm in the mood for something different

Ok guys. Time to start work on this case so i can make some stuff to support it. But some important notes.
I DONT WANT ANY BACK STORY POSTED HERE PUBLICALLY! keep it on the down low.
Feel free to reveal stuff with a direct message. I will use any deep background for story and plot elements. Im trying to run this like a show. So give me dirt to work with!!
FEel free to post basic character bio and job and crap. Just leave the juicy bits to me!
Shield of Tomorrow has done such a good job with this stuff, I cant settle for anything worse in setup.

When you get a chance, I need a star date in terms of the setting. I'm writing up my character now, but her background depends on what year it is.

Has our ship officially changed? I liked the idea of being aboard the James T. Kirk and being a crisis response team...

I just assumed you may want control over what kinda ship you are on since we are going for a longer session. previous session was a throwaway to try out the system. And since you brought up the ship being dead in canon when I brought it in, I was just reminding you on facebook. In the end, i dont care if you reuse it or whatever. i just want a consensus on what kinda ship you guys are getting.
I had no hard time in mind, just around the end of the series so far. I wanted backgrounds on your characters so i can tool events to your backgrounds and stuff. And wanted the juicy bits private so you can use them narratively.
We can do the ship stuff here even. only really need 3 things. Ship type, ship mission, and when it was built, cause every 10 years the ship gets a refit.

To be fair, that ship was not destroyed. Memory Beta (which is non-canonical but "official" ... so books but not movies/tv shows) has it "under repair" in 2381. Note also that the Kirk name was reused for an Exeter-class ship in the STO era (which is about 20 years after that.) What is the official year we're starting? And what's the official ship mission? I know you mentioned the McCoy, but that would, by the simple name, need to be a hospital ship (likewise: the Montgomery Scott would need to be an engineering ship and so on.) Having a USS Spock doesn't make since because he's still alive in the TNG era, all the way to post Voyager (when he goes back in time and sideways.) Like I said on FB, I could totally get behind the USS T'Pol because rowl...

Ok folks, time to get this figured out.
Here are the roles that need to be covered again.
CAPTAIN XO Security Chief Engineering Chief Medical Chief Helmsman Weapons Officer Science Officer Ship's Consular / ERA DEPENDENT Communications Officer / CAN BE NPC if not enough, its practically a robot if nobody is playing this character.
You can have more than one to cover positions, and the ones left out will be NPCed. But someone has to be the captain. Otherwise, whats the point.

Did I not create a medical character?

Depending on the size of the boat, my Andorian could cover one of these positions as needed, though he's probably best suited for Security Chief. If other players actively resist the job of captain, I suppose I could rejigger him for that position ... although that definitely means the XO will need to be hot-headed and emotional since this PC is neither. I'm just uncomfortable once again being the nominal leader of the group...

I do have a medical/science character made up. Just haven't posted it as I wasn't happy with the background story. I didn't know that Junkee was playing medical. If he wants to keep that character than I'll tweak mine to go more science, or see if I can blend science and engineering. I'll make the appropriate changes and post this weekend once I find out what Junkee wants to do

What do we still need? I figured I may as well put a hand on a piece in case I can play Depends on whether the characters from previous are all present. Fairly certain Giger said he didn't want to be the captain (which he had for the one-off) and I'm unclear about CJ's medical dude. Presuming that his CMO is active, it looks like we've got: - Andorian security chief (or XO ... or CO if no one takes that role*) - Rigil
- Human chief medical officer - CJ
- Bajoran (?) science/medical - LabRat
No idea what the others are looking at playing... * @ Xenocore: Interesting idea - open the game in media res (ala DS9) with the CO dying horribly so the XO has to step up and take over?

I should play something where if I am gone for weeks on end it won't negatively affect the game.... so.... captain? ;-)
