Anything you need from me/us to help along with this? Not at this time. I'm trying something different. I've noticed that enthusiasm tends to wane the longer you put stuff up but then don't run. I'm working on things in the background and will have a big upload about 3 weeks before the start of this campaign. That way it will give you guys time to get your characters ready, read over the info, discuss some things and then away we go!

So the soap show is winding down in terms of production, so now I can focus heavily on getting this campaign ready to go for early next year. I was wondering if you all could give me a short statement on how much you know about the Fallout universe? What games did you play (if any) and would you consider yourself having sort of extensive knowledge of the genera? It's fine if you don't and it's fine if you do, I just wanted to get a sense of where everyone was as this may help me introduce certain aspects of the game when we play.
Also the start of this campaign is going to focus on a particular vault, so even if you don't really have a character concept yet, I was hoping if you could let me know if you plan to have a character from the vault or from the wastes, that will help me out greatly.
I'm currently in the middle of world building/plot bunny writing. Expect posts more frequently and check your inboxes for messages from time to time once we get down to character creation. I've already contacted some of you who have an idea or two as to who they want to play. Right now things are pretty fluid but some of it is starting to gel. Hopefully I can make it into an enjoyable experience for everyone. I'll post a more general WTF are we doing in terms of what to expect from the game once I hammer some things down.

I didn't actually play very much of the game(s), but I watched a playthrough of the first and second. I've played in a campaign based on the first and third. I've watched Nuka Break. I've absorbed enough of the lore otherwise to know a hawk from a handsaw.

I've absorbed enough of the lore otherwise to know a hawk from a handsaw. I played through the first and second ones, but played very little of the later ones because they'd evolved away from crpg that is my personal preference. As with Giger, I've also played in a GURPS campaign loosely based on the first game and the third game (up to Tenpenny Tower, I think.) Beyond that, I'm not much of a Fallout expert. I still don't really have a solid character concept in mind - logically, since I'm pretty ignorant of the Fallout universe apart from very basics - alternate history, post-apocalyptic - then I expect whatever character I do end up creating should probably be a Vaultdweller for simplicity's sake.

Wasteland, Wasteland 2, Fallout 1-4, a small bit of New Vegas, and Fallout Tactics. I feel I am familiar with the movers and the shakers when it comes to the various established organizations. Pretty comfortable with the various denizens of the wastes. Fairly familiar with the history prior as well, but this would be my weakest area. I can easily play either. If it works best narratively and for the continuity of things, I am quite content with a vault dweller. Or if a native guide is needed... My current concept is a doctor of some kind.

To be honest, I am ok with playing anything. If someone else really has a hankering to play the medic/doctor I would be just as ok with playing a gadgeteer/mad scientist type. Honestly, my current vision for a doctor would lean towards a mad scientist type as it stands...
I have dark thoughts of rendering my foes into fuel... muhahhaha!

Vault dweller works well because then there's more a sense of unity and it plays up the survival aspect of exploring the wastes for the first time, but being a wastelander has its own benefits as well. I only have had 2.5 people (you, N8, and I *think* Giger said he wanted to do a NCR guy at one point, but my memory is a bit fuzzy on that one) come up with vague ideas of character concepts, so everything is really up in the air. Medic/doctor would probably serve to be a bit more utilitarian/useful, and I have some plot device ideas to make things a bit interesting. Bottom line is, I'm willing to work with you. Hell, you could play a robobrain or Dogmeat and I'll figure out how to make it fun.

And I did mention possibly playing a Ranger (with no further development of the idea other than that). Nothing else, currently. It's feasible at this point that I could start with Riffle and swap later, or I could decide he's okay and stick with him. Or something else entirely.

In the GURPS: Fallout game that I, CJ, and Giger played in, my character was basically the son of the Overseer of our Vault. I don't recall why he was forced on the adventure (then permanently barred from re-entry) but I'm thinking of recycling this character in some capacity. If we started out of the Vault, he could have been part of an attempted coup versus the Overseer ... or, perhaps, the coup succeeded and he was forced out (or fled) before the mob could mess him up. Regardless, I'm leaning toward him being the fish out of water with regards to the survival stuffs out of the Vault ... but I need to figure out a reason why experienced adventurer types don't just shank him and dump his body in a ditch early on...

Question for Giger and Xeno: I have set you both up in the same town. Do you guys know one another? If so, what is the nature of your relationship?

I would think we know each other, after all I bounty hunt in the area. I also turned in Joe Bob for rustling Brahmin instead of wasteland justice on my own. I grew up in the area.

I think I'm going to go ahead and start an obsidian portal for this campaign. I feel like there are going to be situations that need to be recorded in the anals of history

Obsidian Portal is up and you all have been invited. Only the first session log has been posted but I'll update the others and well as add NPCs/Places this week. Feel free to post your character on the boards with any sort of bio blurb you want. What I don't have is the titles for the first two sessions. I know we talked about it, but unfortunately I didn't write down the song titles. If someone could remind me what they were, I would appreciate it.

Many thanks to whom I assume is Giger for the banner and background! It looks really spiffy and is most appreciated!
