LabRat, you participating this year? Anyone else?
I'm trying to get my head straight so I can ... but I haven't quite done a very good job of prep...

Sadly with the soap business, it's crazy busy with orders during the holidays. I haven't been able to do it for the last 2 years. If I won the lottery and can quit my job, you betcha I'd do it. Just wish it wasn't in November. I've contemplated having my own Nano in a different month and just say I've done it, but it isn't quite the same thing.

Yeah, I grok that ... I haven't made any decisions just yet. Still trying to get my head into the proper frame of mind...

Well if you do, then I can be your cheerleader. It does bother me I don't have time to do it. So many things to write...so little time. But then on the other hand, what do I do with my finished works? No one has ever read them, and they just sit in boxes under my bed. Funny I feel compelled to write but never do anything with it. Anyway, I am now officially rambling. I say if you can get the right headspace then do it. You're a gifted writer and it would be a shame for your words to just stay in your head

I keep inching closer and closer to writing. If I just didn't have to read it over and over while writing it…

I keep inching closer and closer to writing. If I just didn't have to read it over and over while writing it… You don't. At least in NaNoWriMo, the objective is to get the stuff down. You could just start writing and never read what you've written until you're done. I couldn't but you might.

You could just start writing and never read what you've written until you're done. There's a 0.0% chance that would occur. I'm waaaaay too anal for that.

NaNo would be way too stressful if you edit as you go. I just get stuff on the page during that month and then take the next year to expand, edit, and proof. But then again I'm perfectly okay with writing while not having a plan, outline, or a need to edit, so maybe I'm just weird.

I think all the writing that I've done has been very deliberate and careful, like poetry. I don't know how it would go, but I know it would not be "fast."

You may want to look into Camp NaNo which isn't in November but held a few times through the year. You can set your own word count so you can go at your own pace for that month. That's what I use to edit and flesh out my Nano draft. It isn't as intense but you still have a deadline to get a goal done.
