so...i'm thinking that i'll slip away into the "shadows" and hunt down Mazrim to advise what has been learned...as far as the rescue...i like your approach...don't think it would be advantageous of us to go in "guns blazing" due to potential for casualties...

... and then a small group (conveniently enough, the actual PCs!) sneak in and try to find A) Lavinia and B) the Ravens. Thoughts? Jocelyn: "Yeah, *clank* I think *clank* that we could *clank* sneak in *clank* without a problem *clank*

OK, "sneak" might have been the wrong word to use. As long as we don't go in glowing like paladins and declaring that we are here to cleanse the unrighteous with holy fire, an adventuring band might not stick out much.

As long as we don't go in glowing like paladins and declaring that we are here to cleanse the unrighteous with holy fire, an adventuring band might not stick out much. Unless they recognize the ship as "formerly theirs," we can probably sail right up; berthing elsewhere might raise suspicions. OTOH, "someone" may be watching us the whole time, in which case, either approach is moot.

A few thoughts (pardon if this is sick/drug induced rambling):
Do our characters have any reason to go to Scuttlecove? I don't remember ever hearing that chicky was located there?
We had Avner screaming bloody murder, is there any reason our characters wouldn't help search for the "assassin"?
We also had some demon-pirate looking guy scrying on us in Scuttlecove... what would we like to do about that? Scry back? Clairaudience/clairvoyance? Have me teleport over there and tell him to mind his own bloody business and quit peepin' on us then immediately teleport back? Obviously, Rowan has no idea why this dude is scrying on us and is a little off put by it...

A few thoughts (pardon if this is sick/drug induced rambling): 1) Lavinia's presence at at Scuttlecove was "deduced" from the communication that was successfully done, IIRC 2) It would be hilarious if we caught & killed the tiefling, threw him at Avner's feet, and said, "Hey, we caught your assassin" 3) I don't think Rowan has been with the group long enough to be an "us" yet. I'm more interested in finding a way to prevent his scrying on us in the future, so stealth might actually be possible.

1. Cool
2. I like it, death to Tieflings!
3. Are we not at all concerned as to why this dude is scrying on the Stormcrows + Rowan + Igneous?
As far as going into Scuttlecove, not kicking over too many cans is probably a good idea... though I don't know if we will "fit in" with the look there...

1. Plus previous encounters with Lavinia's brother point us to Scuttlecove. And the adventure has Scuttlecove in the name, but that might be a bit meta.
2. I love Giger's idea.
3. As far as I'm aware, Rowan is the only person currently aware of the scrying since he's the one who did the detect. Apart from that, Mazrim would like to know A) why he's being scryed upon, B) who is doing the scrying, and C) how to block it.

I was talking any non-meta reasons, but apparently we have good reason to suspect Scuttlecove As far as I'm aware, Rowan is the only person currently aware of the scrying since he's the one who did the detect. Apart from that, Mazrim would like to know A) why he's being scryed upon, B) who is doing the scrying, and C) how to block it. Yeah, we left the game before Rowan had a chance to tell anyone. I've never dealt with someone scrying, let alone catch someone in the act, so I am looking from guidance from the elders as to how best to approach the situation - assume Rowan tells you everything he knows about the dude, since "he" fully plans to on Fri

Well, there's nothing we can really do, except to try to prevent him from scrying us in the future. Shame we don't have Nival's "misdirection" spell…

Well, there's nothing we can really do, except to try to prevent him from scrying us in the future. There is a spell - I can't recall the name of it at the moment and am too lazy to look it up - that essentially blocks scrying (or at least makes it more difficult.) The cloak of nondetection requires that spell, I think.

I'd prefer not getting arch welded to the floor... the good thing is we know this dude uses a crystal ball to scry, and therefore likely can't cast anything himself...

What if he's like Mazrim - a warmage - who utilizes a crystal ball because he has no divination spells? Or like Igneous, who is a specialized caster - maybe divination is a forbidden school for him.

just a lil clarification (and probably explain the gm's response to the term assasin) the tiefling is the one that yelled assasin and took off...not avner

Question for the GM/group:
Let's say I wanted to protect myself in case Mazrim gets taken control of by the hussy he gave a lock of his hair to (I know Rowan doesn't know about this - this is just hypothetical).
Mazrim can cast disintegrate - something you don't wish to be hit by if living is a priority. Let's say I cast "Contingency: Planar Ally Exchange, Lesser" on me that morning, with the condition for the Contingency spell being "If Mazrim targets me with Disintegrate." Now, if Mazrim tried to zap me, would the Contingency spell go off before Mazrim's spell hit me (leaving a nice Planar Ally in my place to "take the bullet" so to speak) or would I get turned into dust, only to have my ashes exchanged with a cute celestial bunny?

To Start you will need a spell focus. A statuette of you carved from elephant ivory and decorated with gems (1,500 gp value). This is not something that you have in you material component pouch. Second: When the planar ally spell goes off it will take one round to bargain with your planar ally and a payment of another 1,200 gp again this is not part of your material component pouch. Third it requires losing 100xp So sadly that disintegrate would still turn you to ash That is how I understand that it would work
