Seeing how this board has noting on it I figured it was time to get ti started. Seeing how there are only two players with the group that participated in this campaign only one of those with a character still alive That being Gareth de Garen. Who was keeping a journal of his adventures on this board. Which I will be releasing a little at a time on this board or those whom wish to read it. Currently I have no time frame for when I will continue this adventure. Only that this should get me motivated.
what I would like everyone to start thinking about is character creation. Everyone will start out at seventh level. Only classes from the complete books and PHBII will be allowed and then only with my approval. Stats will be rolled using 4d6's using the highest 3 for each of the six stats.

Is it only classes, or that these books are the only source material to be used? Because, if you recall, my character had the Ancestral Relic feat from "Book of Exalted Deeds" (so he's broke but has a +2 cold iron bastard sword named Archaeus) and was working toward the Annointed Knight PrC in that book. He had also picked up the Leadership feat (at your suggestion) and had waited until 6th level to summon his warmount so he could get a pegasus for the flying thing. If that's a problem, I guess I can rebuild him...

You stated that you might want to change characters. If you do you can create a new one if not Garen will be alright under the grandfather clause. I will need to know so that I can alter the beginning. Do not worry one way or the other. Your Journal will still be used and Garen's were abouts unknown. Just so you know he might be deceased

Nah, I'm cool with playing Gareth ... I just might need to rebuild him. I seem to recall the Ancestral Relic thing almost being more trouble than it was worth, with the stuff in Weapons of Legacy actually seeming to work better. If I did rebuild him, with your permission, I'd probably abandon the AR stuff and go instead in that direction (with an eye toward a "Knight of the Chalice" PrC instead of AnK.) The sword Exordius in Weapons of Legacy fits Gareth perfectly ...

I have decided to go with seventh level starting gp which is 19,000. If there are any other questions about character creation you can ask here or wait until this Friday when we will be working on them even though I will not be fully be for a couple more weeks

I would you to give a little more detail as to what you want. I know that you will be giving up spells, but what are you wanting if feats what feats etc. @ GM. I am considering a slight "retooling" of Gareth when he levels up (using that thing in the PHB II about retraining or whatnot.) Specifically, I am considering having him utilize the Holy Warrior variant class ability of the Paladin. It eliminates his spellcasting capability (so he'll have to actually obtain some real barding for Helyavantar), but gives him a bonus feat at 4th, 8th, 11th, and 14th level (which basically means he'd get a bonus feat - Mounted Combat.) Why, you ask? Well, based on my readings and research about Mayaheine, having Gareth go into the Knight of the Chalice doesn't really make sense, but the Knight Protector (both in Complete Warrior) fits perfectly for a paladin of the Shield-Maiden. Unfortunately, this requires four feats - Mounted Combat, Power Attack, Cleave and Great Cleave - which, if I didn't do the Holy Warrior thing would mean he could enter level 1 of this PrC at 18th level. With the variant, he can enter the Knight Protector @ 12th level. Also? Gareth is so gonna be trying to talk Anthea down from her Vengeance kick once the party joins up with her. It is his belief that such an emotion is ultimately self-destructive. Who knows? Maybe she'll end up being swayed from Cuthbert to Mayaheine. And finally, at some point before or @ 11th level, Gareth will need to seal himself in complete and total darkness for 24 hours and expend 12,500 gp (in special oils or something) to obtain the Lesser Legacy feat for Exordius. I was thinking that this spot could later become a Holy place for the Mayaheine faith, so keep that in mind for future adventuring...

Retraining. Specifically about class feature retraining. This particular aspect - the holy warrior variant thing - isn't covered in retraining, so you may end requiring me to do the rebuilding thing instead (which could lead to a Quest of some sort, depending upon you - since it's actually a fairly minor change at this point (loss of spellcasting, gains a feat), I'd think retraining should cover it, but that's up to you.) Retraining begins on 192 of the PHB2, rebuilding is on 196.
If your not keen on the notion of Gareth picking up the bonus feats so as to enter the Knight Protector PrC, then I'll probably still look at retraining to go with the non-spellcasting Paladin from Complete Warrior. Either way, it'd still probably require retraining or a rebuild quest.

As it stands, I would gain only a single feat which would be Mounted Combat (a prereq for Knight Protector.) It isn't until 8th level and again at 11th level that he gains additional bonus feats from the Holy Warrior list. Effectively, the plan would be thus: - Level 7 (next level) - retrain. Picks up Mounted Combat (thanks to 4th level Bonus feat.) Loses spellcasting ability.
- Level 8 - bonus feat. Power Attack (prereq for KnProt.)
- Level 9 - PC feat. Cleave (prereq for KnProt.)
- Level 10. Nada.
- Level 11 - bonus feat. Great Cleave (final prereq for KnProt.)
- Enters Knight Protector prestige class.
I can accept that.

So, I've been giving the current "in-game" situation some thought and have a few things (and ideas) I'd like to bounce off ya'll. First, unless he receives a direct order from Mayaheine herself, I honestly can't see Gareth leaving this cloister undefended, not with the mortal shell of his Ascended goddess within. Knowing that the Hierachs and Iuz are on the march (which he's see plenty of evidence for in both cases), he'd more likely remain here to Defend the corpse of the Ascended Mayaheine (since who knows what sort of foul things could be accomplished or done against her or her clergy with a physical manifestation present?) For that matter, I can't see Mayaheine herself being foolish enough to leave her corpse here either, which leads directly to my idea. What if, since this is now Mayaheine Holy/Sanctified Ground, she sort of shifts the entire cloister to Mertion (the Platinum Heaven), which is the fifth layer of Mount Celestia and where Mayaheine makes her home? So this cloister is sort of currently in a demi-plane in between the the Prime Material and Celestia for the moment, but once everyone who isn't going to be there permanently departs (through mist, of course), the demi-plane is closed off from access by way of the Prime (except, of course, for characters of her faith who jump through a whole host of flaming hoops and fulfil a long, extended Quest to reach this point, ala the search for the Holy Grail in "Excalibur.") Of course, the current inhabitants - the surviving Holy Shielding knights - aren't necessary going to be willing to just give up this cloister without complaint, but since Heironeous himself resides in Celestia as well (Venya, the third layer), I could certainly see him stepping in and telling them to drop it (especially since he's ostensibly the god of chivalry and honor, and it certainly doesn't track for him to treat a Lady thus.) I also thought it would be interesting if all of the slain Paladins and Knights here who fell defending the Cloister were all Resurrected, but now owed fealty and faith to Mayaheine rather than Heironeous (again, I could see him (Heironeous) allowing this because he's ashamed of what his Paladins have been doing. (Unrelated, how is it that they didn't lose their Paladin status for lying through their teeth like this? Seems to really go against the very paladin code, methinks, especially the God of Chivalry, Justice, Honor, War, Daring, and Valor, especially one whose third principle in his Heironean Code is "Duty to a Lady.") Thus, when Gareth & Co., as well as Lorenz & his followers ride out of the cloister, I sort of envision a thick mist rising up (again, ala the final battle in "Excalibur"), and when it has passed, the cloister has vanished. Failing that, if the cloister is to remain here, then again, I can't see Gareth leaving it. This is like a Knight Templar discovering the tomb where Christ was laid to rest and a perfectly preserved corpse of the Son of God being within - does anyone think that Templar would leave? Gareth's mandate is defense, so the PC would be forced to "retire" so as to defend his goddess' resting place.

i haven't been playing so therefore not entirely sure what has been going on ... but i see two things ... 1) if the GM and Player agree on it...it would a good way to retire the PC at least for now .... 2) i like the idea of it leaving (if temporarily) this plane if only to protect it ....

This is how it will be. You will be at the cloister of the Holy Shielding for about 28 days. (News spreads fast of the events at the Cloister of the Holy Shielding). The first 12 days are spent cleansing the Cloister of the Holy Shielding of the vile remains of the devils that had defiled its holy grounds. During that time the Knights that remain (there were no clerics that survived) try there best to make things right between them selfs and the budding new faith of Mayaheine. 13 days in Patriarch Phelan of Pelor arrives and talks with Rachel then Gareth, Lorenz. One day later Archbishop Damaen of Heironeous shows, Phelan and Damaen debate behind closed doors. One day after that Chapeaux Brioc of St. Cuthbert shows, later that day Summoner Imidd of Trithereon and the four talk, argue, debate. Days go by as the four talk of the future of the new faith, and who will advise and lead it.

Okay, first thing that comes to mind is that there is no way that Gareth is going to sit down and let these four people, none of whom are among the Mayaheine faithful, debate behind closed doors who will advise and lead Her flock. As the rankingest member of Mayaheine's clergy, he will demand to be present in that closed door meeting - the clergy of Heironeous have already shown they can be deceitful (which has had a noticeable cooling effective with Gareth's attitude toward Heironeans & Knights of the Shielding), and while he generally trusts Pelorian patriarchs, he's not going to completely roll over when it comes to this. Doing so will set a bad precedent, so he's going to insist on being present and arguing for Mayaheine autonomy. The future of Her Faith is Gareth's task, not the less than honorable Heironeans, the ultimately self-destructive Cuthbertians, or the chaotic Trithereons. There's no way in hell Gareth is going to let these four people decide how the Mayaheine Church functions, not when they all (including the Pelorians, unfortunately) have a vested interest in keeping Mayaheine's power limited.
If this ends up necessitating a new character for Gareth (as in, he finds himself suddenly running the church), then so be it, but he's definitely not going to allow Mayaheine's faith be dictated to by hypocrites and liars.
Obviously, with a +13 in Diplomacy, he'll be phrasing that in a more ... diplomatic manner.

Morgan hasn't made Gareth his "official" captain, per se, so he doesn't have any real reason to hang around for long, unless someone specifically asks him to stay—doesn't necessarily mean he'll leave, but it does mean he's probably getting pretty antsy to get moving by the end of the 13 days, since he doesn't really have nything to do here.

Voldorn will finish writing the 2 scrolls he has into his spellbook first. He has very little interest in deities and even less in the machinations of their clergy. However, in the short time he has known Gareth he has grown to respect him a great deal and therefore will be willing to stay around for a time. After perhaps a week or so he will want to be getting back on the road. He still wants revenge on those who displaced him and slaughtered his last remaining travel companion from the old days.
Even while he is staying Voldorn will keep mostly to himself. Graxxlynar, though, will not. He will be insatiably curious and will attempt to listen in on conversation, poke around peoples bags, and search around the area . If he begins to cause too much of a fuss it should be brought to Voldorn's attention. Voldorn will rebuke Graxxlynar and put a stop to it.

The offer would certainly be made at first opportunity. Gareth will need a "captain" and Morgan has shown a knowledge of tactics that de Garen doesn't possess. Also, Gigermann, I accidentally "edited" your comment instead of "quoting" it. Mea culpa.

After further thought ( Patriarch Phelan of Pelor) will allow Rachel to sit in on the discussions for now. Since Gareth seems a bit over passionate (which is understandable). Your time will come to speak.
Voldorn, Graxxlynar returns with a couple of potion flasks, a scroll tube, and a Iron flask, unlike any you have seen before it is inlaid with gold runes and stoppered by a brass plug bearing a seal engraved with runes ;D
Graxxlynar tells you that he over heard Chapeaux Brioc speaking to another of his priests that he has not heard from Anthea in sometime. Seemed deeply concerned about Anthea completing her atonement. Anthea needs to find Bishop Kragen. He shall Divine what course of action that they need to take if she fails.

After further thought ( Patriarch Phelan of Pelor) will allow Rachel to sit in on the discussions for now. Since Gareth seems a bit over passionate (which is understandable). Your time will come to speak. And again, this simply isn't going to work. These clerics are not of the Mayaheine faithful. They have no say in how the religion is to be formed or led (and it's frankly kind of insulting for them to even assume that they do), especially since the Heironeans aren't even in the same pantheon (they're Oeridian, she's Flan.) Even the Pelorian Patriarch is being kind of condescending here - Gareth is the titular head of the Mayaheine Order at this point (since, according to my calculations, Rachel's been a follower of Mayaheine for less than two months at this point whereas we've already established that Gareth has been obedient to her since infancy), so even trying to keep him out of the "discussions" is simply out of bounds on all points. Gareth will not back down on this point because if he does, it will set a dangerous precedent (Mayaheine as subordinate to these religions) that will permanently establish this religion as inferior to theirs. At best, the only sect that should have any say would be Pelor, but even then, it's minimal. Also, how exactly is Gareth "over passionate"? While I may have been over-passionate, he was calm and reasoned. I mean, he rolled a 32 on the Diplomacy check, which seems to be pretty persuasive to me. As I stated before, that was my opinion about the priests and Gareth's would be more ... lenient (because he's more of an optimist who sees things in a Brighter, Paladiny way as compared to me.) Maybe I'm not understanding what's going on, but it just doesn't make sense for Gareth to not be there from the moment these ... meetings begin since he's the person most familiar with Mayaheine and the like. We set the character up as someone who was supposed to be the harbinger of this new religion but you keep writing me into a corner where I'm almost being forced to retire the character. I don't get it. Why would these clerics speak to Rachel anyway? She's a newcomer to the Mayaheine faith and is wise enough to say so (and thus, defer to Gareth, who isn't a newcomer.) I simply do not understand your thinking here, Magman.
