Hello all,
I am a grad student in computer science at OU (so I'm in my mid-20s). Recently, I have gained an interest in tabletop role-playing games. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anyone to play with and kind of show me (and potentially my wife), the ropes. I've been a PC gamer for many years and have recently watched a few D&D campaigns so I get the general gist of gameplay, but I could really use some actual playing time in order to better understand the core rules, character creation, and actual 'role playing.'
It seems the hardest part of this kind of gaming is to find a group willing to help someone knew learn and play with, but I would love it if y'all would be willing. Let me know what y'all think...

Thanks Gigermann, I am reading the players handbook for 4th edition D&D currently to try and get the rules down. Hopefully everyone else is willing to let a new player embarrass themselves thoroughly

You wouldn't be the first That said, we're not using 4e—as a group, we don't particularly like it. The current game is the Pathfinder one, which is 3.5 (or 3.75, depending on how you look at it). We're currently discussing how best to meet you—we don't have an SOP for folks who wander in off the intarwebz…'cause it hasn't happened before. First time for everything. So, how'd you end up here anyway?

Whatever y'all use is fine with me, since I haven't played any of it I couldn't give an opinion on preference anyway. As to how I came to be here; as I said I recently had a piqued interest in tabletop rpg games. Unfortunately no one I know really plays them, I had spent awhile trying to find 'friends of friends' who played but to no avail. So onto the internet I went to find a group with an opening and willing to teach someone new. Somehow I wound up on www.nearbygamers.com where I found y'all. Actually, if your location on there is reasonably accurate, I live very close by, off of 134th and May Ave (we just moved to OKC in the last month from Norman).

I guess we'll see if it pays off Now reading Pathfinder Core rules... I'm hoping things aren't too terribly different, but if its based on 3.5ed I would think it would be similar enough... Anything else y'all would like to know about me?

We're leaning toward the idea of meeting you at dinner somewhere. Since you're married & in college, we know from our experience that you're probably broke (the guy you would be replacing was married & in college), so it makes sense to let you pick the place (subject to adjustment)—probably Friday, pre-game would be best, but that depends on everyone's schedule. We'll be missing one tomorrow, at least, so we might want to wait. Anything else y'all would like to know about me? I get the impression this is your first foray into RPGs. Why the sudden interest?

Since we just moved up here I really don't know any of the local good places so I would just go with Applebees/Chilis to be amiable with everyone's food preferences, though I can personally eat dang near anything and would happily take suggestions. Anytime after 5pm is fine with me since I work 9-5 throughout the week. I will let you guys choose if you wanna meetup tomorrow or sometime in the coming weeks, as I can be patient Speaking of which, when we all meet, what would you like me to bring? I have my laptop with the Pathfinder PDF and dice. Anything else? Also, how would you like to do character creation, assigning ability scores, etc? As far as why the sudden interest. I first tried a couple PC RPGs (Fallout 3, Mass Effect series, then Dragon Age - I have stayed far far away from WoW, knowing it would end any semblance of a 'normal' life) and enjoyed myself quite a bit, then a few internet celebs I watch started a campaign they recorded (I had no real previous exposure to tabletop RPGs) which really interested me since the PC RPGs lacked any real ability to improvise or go outside of the 'box' the devs put into the game... So all of those factors came together and here I am, hat in hand as it were

Looks like we're gonna go ahead and try for this Friday (24th), as early as you can manage (5:30 ish?). I personally like IHOP, myself, lately. Don't need to bring anything just yet—we just wanted to meet you first. We can sort out the details here, or in PM.
Any of the other players are welcome to come along as well.

IHOP is fine with me, the one next to Buffalo Wild Wings near Exit 116? (2501 S Service Road, Moore, OK)
I should get there at 5:30-5:45 ish depending on traffic and what extra work must be done.
I'll sit inside on the benches by the seating person. I'll be the blonde guy wearing a black collared shirt with blue jeans... my name is Nate.
