Race: Trandoshan (Frak all you hater wannabees)
Stats: STR 17 DEX 16 CON 18 INT 14 WIS 9 CHA 12
Role: Loadmaster
Background: Ex-slaver, ex-slave. Was working with slavers (Loadmaster is difficult when the cargo moves on its own). Slavers tried to double-cross a "client". Character turned on them. Captured by the slavers and as punishment, was "Sold" at the next world. Hates all slavers and has "Declared War" on all of them bastards.
Now just looking for some place to eek out an existence and get some payback when possible.
Actor: Um..."Rango"? or maybe a Sleestack...I dunno...

How's this? Like the concept. Given any thought to classes and feats? Or a name? There's a nifty name generator here that might help you out there if you're having any problems. Follow-up (and I'm throwing this out to the other Players too so ideas are welcome): how does he become one of the crew? Ondo, Brody, and Jor (well, Augur too) haven't had positive experiences with Doshans, so there needs to be an explanation why the accept this guy.

Easy way is somebody already knows him, from their background.

Jor wasn't a guest for long enough and I'd be hesitant to have this guy be involved with that slave raid in any fashion. I figure, by that point, he was already a slave himself.
Unless you're saying that Jor was previously a slave, back before the game began, but managed to get free somehow. I could live with that.

I assumed he meant that Slee Stakk was a guest while Jor was also a guest, and tried to help get free.

ok...why don't we use both ideas ... we were both "guests" of the doshans before game time...helped each other get free, and once did so, wished each other well and went separate ways only to have the fates/force cross ours paths again

With my background working the Hutts of Desilijic maybe I had some sort of dealings with slavers for the Hutts of Desilijic. Perhaps I even had a hand in his escape

Right away, I can tell you that the equipment is gonna have to be redone. All PCs are starting with 1st level wealth and if you want a light repeater (which is a military-grade weapon), you're also going to have to pay for the licensing, which will be another 20% of the weapon's normal cost. As it stands, you've spent 2750 credits, which admittedly is close to the maximum of 3000 a 1st level soldier gets, but I didn't see any die rolling, buddy. With the other two new characters, we used the respective character threads for all die rolling (stats, hit points & money.) Times are really, really tough. Go ahead and attach the actual excel file and I'll try to figure out why it isn't calculating the feats correctly.

Okay, now I need you to roll your HP for four levels here on the boards. Just d10 - don't add any stat adjustments, and any ones need to be rerolled.
Then go ahead and do the wealth too.
We also need to do your Background (Rebellion Era Campaign Guide, pg16.) Based on what you've put forward, I'm thinking that "Enslaved" works pretty well, although Imprisoned might work as well. Take a look and let me know.

Now that you have the wealth, go ahead and purchase your equipment. Pay attention to the licensing rules (core rulebook, p118) as that will likely preclude you from actually owning anything (initially) with military or restricted availabilities. I'm not barring you from purchasing them, but you will be expected to follow the appropriate rules listed to obtain a license.
Regarding the shield thing we discussed (which will be Vorrsk's Nifty Beginning Item), I'm thinking it will be nifty piece of equipment that will use the personal shield rules from the Knights of the Old Republic sourcebook, albeit with some tweaks. Use of it requires the Light Armor proficiency (which you have) and there are 5 charges (can be recharged by swapping out the power cell or plugged into an outlet for 30 minutes.) It can only be activated once per encounter, but will last for the duration of this encounter.
In the deactivated state, the shield will be completely retracted into a gauntlet. With a Swift Action, you can activate the shield - think Percy Jackson and how his shield worked. It will provide you with a Shield Rating (SR) of 10 (reduce incoming damage by 10, providing it is energy damage.) You will be able to shoot through this shield with no problem, although use of it gives you a maximum Dex bonus to Reflex defense of +3 (which is what you currently are.)
For two charges and a Move Action, you can fine-tune the frequency of the shield so the SR is doubled for the duration of the encounter or it affects non-energy attacks (e.g., bullets or a vibroaxe) for the duration of the encounter.
This item is purely defensive, so it doesn't set off weapon scanners.

Does the shield gauntlet thing work for you?

Yeah, that's cool.
question: Would it provide cover to anyone behind me?
|
|
|
Post by Rigil Kent on Mar 23, 2011 21:52:39 GMT -6
Depends on the situation. Normally, no. In most instances, there would be too many alternate angles for a hostile to shoot from to protect someone behind him. In a situation where those angles are inhibited - e.g., a narrow corridor like you might see in a boarding action - that might be different.
An argument might be made for it providing the +4 cover bonus to Reflex defense in other situations, but much will depend on the circumstances.
