So we have been using d20pro for quite sometime now, and it has been working pretty well, however; I have been looking at the other alternative software that is available.
So far, I have found:
Fantasy Grounds, www.fantasygrounds.com
and
Maptools (rptools), rptools.net/
Both have direct support for Pathfinder. Each has a different approach to the virtual tabletop enviornment.
Fantasy grounds is similar to d20pro, but is a bit more robust and is a bit more intuative than d20pro. From what I have been able to see of it (via tutorials and such) it is easier on the GM than d20pro. It gives the players more control of their own characters and rolls. The largest draw back however is cost. The full license (required for GMs) is ~$40, and the lite license (for players) is ~$25*. There is also the Ultimate license which is ~$150 (it is like the full license, but allows anyone, regardless of license to join). *There is a discount if more that one lite license are purchased at the same time as the full (ie, 1 Full + 4 lites, lites cost only ~$15).
RPTools (MapTools) is free. It is quite robust, and has alot of very nice features. It is however not intuitive and seems to need someone that has a bit of programing experience to make full use of it. The support community is very active, so alot of work is already done, but again, leveraging the system would take some time to get use to, however; the results would be very nice.
Now, why I have really been looking...
I am quite enjoying this campaign and I want to see it through to its end, or yours . I am beginning to feel the strain of GMing and the clunkyness of d20pro (which isn't helping). I also would also like to afford the oppertunity for others that wish to GM that luxury. I am not planning on stopping anytime really soon, I have every intention of seeing us through to the end of this module, and possible into the next.
Want I would like to know is; what are everyones feelings regarding switching systems.
I am also interested to know if anyone is interested in GM in the future? (Maybe you are and felt intimidated by the d20pro software, if so that is cool, again why I am looking at more user friendly platforms, or I could teach you what I know.)
