Rowan Terrowin
NG, Human
Cleric 4 / Ordained Champion 3 / Divine Oracle 2 / Sacred Exorcist 2 / Contemplative 1
Deity: Anselm, the Threefold God
Hearing McN's preference for only using a limited selection of books, Rowan was built using only the PHB and the Complete series of books! No crazy rules that were written up in some back ally one time that folks have never heard of!
Still working on the equipment... The equipment will likely make use of the MIC, another very common book!
Rowan Terrowin was born to a humble family in a small village relatively segregated from the rest of society at large. Most of his early life was spent going to school and church, learning basic weapon and armor training, and doing small odd jobs for the other citizens to help bring in extra income for his family. As Rowan grew older he became more and more involved with the church and the worshipping of Oeridian. Everything was set for the typical life of most of the other of his peers: to find love, have children, and grow old - all in the village where the cycle would start again. All of that changed, however, when a middle-aged gentleman wandered into the village one morning. Being a small village, word traveled quickly of this mysterious stranger who was staying in a spare room in the local church. As is typical for a curious teenager, Rowan Terrowin began spending many hours discussing things with the traveler, known as Hadrian Mowbray. Hadrian told Rowan that he was a representative of "The Eye of Justice" - a group who worshipped Anselm, known as the Threefold God, whom they claimed was a unique combination of three different deities from three different pantheons. This was considered blasphemy by Oeridian worshipers of Heironeous and when Hadrian began proselytizing his beliefs in the village, a theological civil war began. After much introspection, Rowan decided to join Hadrian's Eye of Justice - putting him in the minority in the village. Friends and family of Rowan turned their back on him, seeing him as a fallen member of society and corrupted by a “cult.” For several months the two groups existed as a two separate societies inside the same village – neither side willing to have anything to do with the other.
An incident where Rowan killed two members of the opposing church spying on The Eye of Justice forced Hadrian to send him out with a few priests to form another church away from Rowan's home - a place called Sasserine. After a few years the church was successfully setup and began to grow. It was then Rowan met his future wife - a young Paladin in the ranks of The Eye of Justice named Evaline. Being a paladin, Evaline was often away from Sasserine helping secure safety for members of the church. Rowan, on the other hand, spent more time actually dealing with Evil Outsiders trying to corrupt and influence people around the city.
One night, Rowan received a vision from Anselm, telling him he was needed to strike out to a small village known as Farshore and an urgent matter would confront him where his strength of faith was needed.
Anselm (pronounced AHN-Zelm):
Also known as the Threefold God, is believed to be the God created by the combination of the godhoods of Heironeous, the Oeridian god of War, Kord, the Sueli god of strength, and Azor'alq, the Baklunish god of courage and duty. Gedrin Shadowbane had a vision in which Heironeous was slain by Kord and Heironeous; godhood merged with Kord's. Later, Gedrin had another vision in which Kord was killed by Azor'alq after which the Sueli god's essence merged with Azor'alq's, creating Anselm: The Threefold God. Currently, The Eye of Justice are the only group who recognize and worship Anselm's godhood.
The Eye of Justice:
This order is considered heretical by many Oeridians due to their belief that Heironeous is part of Anselm; known as the "Heresy of the Threefold God" by the Oeridians. Members of this sect have no pity or fear and some of the more fanatic groups use tactics some would consider questionable. The Order attracts outcasts from other orders as well as people seeking redemption for evil acts.
