This looks really interesting to me, but I am going to have to take some time to really think about what type of character I want to play. Maybe watch a couple of more episodes of TN. I just don't want my lack of involvement right off the bat to be interpreted as me ignoring this.

I just don't want my lack of involvement right off the bat to be interpreted as me ignoring this. In your case, it's an excellent opportunity to play someone with forensics experience—providing you (all) want to play an "investigative" type game. In fact, that's been my assumption all along. Also assuming yours and N8's characters as a married couple. None of that is required, though—just my pre-discussion assumptions.

That is really weird you mentioned that because I told N8 last night that we should be married in this game, and we have to keep our kids from figuring out that we are undercover. We have been mindful to keep ourselves as separate entities in game, in spite of being married IRL. But I think for this one, it fits with the story.
I fully endorse a investigative game. They are my favorite. And I am considering the forensics angle. I just want to think about our in game situation a bit more before committing to that, something brilliant may pop out of the woodwork. Still working on it...

I expect a plan will develop through further discussion.
For the record, my original plan was to use the Dispensables team (or similar, since it was for the other group); that's why Rigil ended up using Noqed—who, right now, is the only solid intention, and happens to be fully statted out, etc.
Down the road, I started thinking of it in more of a Stargate SG-1 vibe, which is the direction I would push you in, were I to be pushy. Noqed is a solid soldier/scout role; maybe team-leader.

Sort of Mr. and Mrs. Smith ... no ... more like True Lies, but not quite either. In any event, I approve.

In the event any of you have the bandwidth to make a quick decision:
What I'm intending for the characters is to use one of the base Action (250) Templates—including from other sources, though you're most likely to find the one you want in Action 1—along with a background Lens. At this point, all I need is a declaration for one or the other. Also, I don't really care if the templates overlap—I can try to tailor the game to the party.
I think Rigil used Assassin+Military for Noqed. If Shelley sticks with the "forensics" angle, she'll probably be using Investigator.
Related Note: If someone has been wanting to play a Gadgeteer-type, this would be a good campaign for it.

Actually, I used the Infiltrator+Military.

I'll go ahead and commit to the forensic angle. If we don't have someone that can heal people, I can easily use both investigator and medic, and make her a forensic pathologist. She would have to have her medical degree for that, so she can be useful if someone gets hurt.

Well, my character will call yours Doc, seeing as he's former military and that's what we do to anyone in the medical profession...

You guys might check this over and see if it's still relevant. Also, since we're starting this again, it might be worthwhile to consider the 250cp start and whether or not you'd prefer to keep it as-is or lower it.

If using Action, then yeah. 175 is doable as well, but I'm totally fine with 250 ... although Action is pretty cinematic...

So are we making any major changes in terms of flavor here. Originally I think I was going to play the forensic/medic person, but if it is just a big shooting match without investigation then I'll have to switch it up.

Originally I think I was going to play the forensic/medic person, but if it is just a big shooting match without investigation then I'll have to switch it up. That's still a very apt option. I halfway suspect my character will be the equivalent of the "tank" - he's not going to be as good (intentionally so) with the investigation part, but will be very good at extracting us alive should the investigation go south.

I still expect this one to be less shootery and more investigatory, but the characters will still have a military-type background

Yeah, that makes more sense. That way, we can have the inevitable "military versus civilian" mindset clash about operational parameters.

They could recruit specialists for this mission but also give them some basic training since they don't know exactly what they would run into "out there"

They could recruit specialists for this mission but also give them some basic training since they don't know exactly what they would run into "out there" They're not going to bring in outsiders for a super-sensitive, world-ending, covert mission—but they would bring in specialists from other agencies (which usually are non-military, per se). There may be some civilians found amongst a unit of Delta operators, but they're going to be a very specific sort. Essentially, I see this campaign as Tom Clancy rising from the grave to write a continuation of the Terra Nova story, having been shoe-horned into including some alien stuff. The characters should be suitable Clancy-type protagonists (which are usually military/intelligence types). Not that all of you have read any Tom Clancy… Edit: Given the nature of the mission, to find missing, potentially killed operators, one with a forensics background would be really helpful

So basically, if I understand, if not military, then a player should operate on the presumption that they're already members of an alphabet soup organization (NSA, CIA, MI6, Mossad, etc.) That about right?

Yeah. In Shelley's case, FBI would make sense, depending on the specifics. While we're thinking about it, I'll mention that I've updated the briefing to include the fact that the characters' background/identity will have been scrubbed and a (fully documented) new one will have been given them, which will be, effectively, due to the mission, permanent—almost a WitSec situation. There's going to be their "real" background+skillset, and the one they let on to others. They may be similar or related, but they will undoubtedly be different.

So, what is the likelihood that we'll encounter individuals from our previous lives? I'm guessing the Secret (that you said we shouldn't spend points on cause it is assumed) will cover that?

Very-highly unlikely, but not unpossible. "Yes" to the latter (though that being a result of an old acquaintance showing up is very-highly unlikely).

So far: - Rigil=Shooter/Tactical; completed
- Shelley=FBI-type Medical (focus on forensic pathology); concept only
- N8=Nada. It'd be nice, and not unuseful to the Colony, if he could me a meteorologist, but I have no idea how that could work into the Agency Op situation; if he came in solely as Shelley's husband, it could work, but then he's not part of the op.
- McN=if involved, I have an idea he'd probably be happy to work with
Regarding the theme: still more investigatory/social than shootery, but that's up for debate. Regarding the point levels: the choice here is between higher-point characters that are extra-competent, in which case we probably don't want to use much in the way of Plot Points, etc., or lower-point characters, and have the Plot Points safety-net to fall back on—either is perfectly suited. Regarding the Op: I'm not actually locked into the whole "direct" Agency operation; I could just as easily use a more "unintentional" involvement with the Agency, or even "unknowing" involvement. We could use normal folk that get dragged into it here just as easily as assigned gov't agents/operators (incidentally, changing doesn't require any adjustment to current character concepts), if that sounds better to you—could do a mix of witting/unwitting also. Anyway, choice of characters will have an effect on the sorts of encounters/events I work in, so I'm pushing a little

I think a mix works best. Perhaps my character (and his 'wife'/Ally) are the spooks/spec ops types, with the others are just civvies who get sucked into the investigation.

What about a face/con man. We need one. I'll need some time as to what kind of face/con man to play but it is just an idea? It hadn't occurred to me until you mentioned this, but I've been imagining this group as a bit more "disorganized" than usual—like there isn't a real "leader." I'd been been treating it like everyone would effectively be his own face-man. It wouldn't negate the utility of having a specialist, though, if that were true. That said, my imaginings of the nature of the group have not yet benefited from an understanding of its ultimate makeup. The Agency could certainly have use for a dedicated undercover guy—the gov't con man. If using the non-Agency theme, a con-man could potentially find a way to get himself on a pilgrimage—as corrupt as the gov't is, shouldn't be too hard—and after that, it's down to finding a way to bind him to the others.
