Random commentary notes below. First, regarding the sword that Andrei's father was originally looking for (which led to his doooooom), I found this on the d20pfsrd.com site under artifacts: the Briar Blade. I decided on this because I noted it is listed as being very anti-fey and since Tess has that Bane (Fey) greatsword we found, I thought it might be amusing if the legend was all mixed up and these stats for Briar Blade are all screwed up and wrong. Alternately, the sword might not even exist (which would be amusing as well). And finally, I think it would be just as amusing if we did find the sword but it's so old and rusted that it's useless as an actual weapon now, ala this old Viking sword that was found in Norway by some random hiker. Second, regarding his "ancestral relic" or the sword that his father wielded, I had some thoughts about that as well. As I recall, Andrei recognized his father's sword fairly quickly so that implies that there was something unique about it so I'm thinking that it was made of "red steel" ala the below. Obviously, there is no "red steel" special material (although back in the 80s, when TSR controlled D&D, there was a campaign setting called Red Steel - I only vaguely recall it and never actually played in it. I think it had mutants or something in it. Regardless, I'm thinking that, if I can swing it with the Ancestral Relic stuff, I'm going to make the blade constructed of either blood crystal or more likely, Chthonic steel (if available since this is 3rd party and not Paizo) to explain the red hue. I'm not enthusiastic about the lessened HP that come with the blood crystal, which is why I could go there. Alternately, the fire-forged steel (which is a terrible name; all steel is fire-forged!) could work. Further, this means that Piotr Voronkov (Andrei's dad) was likely known as Piotr the Red.

You know, that is interesting... maybe Andrei should talk to Tess about those suspicions....
As far as "The Briar Blade" is concerned - I don't think I'm going to have anything like that in any game. I have now learned from a prior test this campaign that weapons with egos are probably a bad idea as I set one up and despite there being no reason the character would know what was happening (a mind altering effect), the character just decided he knew what was going on and immediately broke the item... so, obviously it isn't something that works in this campaign. It is the same reason I tend to avoid enemies using mind altering spells.
A bit of clarification: the sword was found impaled into the skin "mask" of your father's face. The pommel of the aldori dueling sword bore his family mark (similar to a maker's mark), as is tradition. This doesn't mean it is his, but a reasonable person has no reason to believe it is not (unless it is a fake).
Since both of these are on the pathfinder wiki, I'm fine with them being used but this material can be considered dang near unknown in the region. Though if this is something you'd like to retcon, I'd have to retcon the loss of things of equivalent value. I'm not sure how much personal funds you have (or how y'all are dealing with personal/group/kingdom funding), but just let me know and we can make it happen.

You know, that is interesting... maybe Andrei should talk to Tess about those suspicions.... I wonder if Tess would be the proper person to ask, not because of her INT stat but because she's an Outlander (a Kellid, I think?). I'd actually think Babus or maybe Mei might have more "Knowledge (history)" or Knowledge (arcana)" which would be more appropriate ... regardless, something for me to keep in mind. Right. I did do that with the evil bow. My bad. Right. I was obviously mis-remembering then. Disregard strange blade composition thoughts then. Besides, I have about 60 gp to my name so it isn't like I can actually afford much of anything at the moment...

I guess I meant to see her sword for research purposes. She is an outlander from the country of *mumble mumble mumble* and would be unlikely to know anything about that specific sword. Walays is the Kellid, whose people have been in and about the area for a long time, though in a very nomatic style - so he may actually know something about it from a tangential rumor. If that doesn't work out, there are always trying to find any sages that may know in the general area.
Part of the difficulty of running a kingdom is balancing what you spend on yourselves and what you spend on the kingdom, so far y'all have been very generous and using only what you've looted to equip yourselves.

Discovered an interesting tidbit regarding Sirian Aldori, the "Miyamoto Musashi" of Golarion, that I had never noticed before:So those sworn to the Swordpact are expected to change their last names to Aldori. Since Andrei hasn't done this, the logical thought process is that those who enter the Aldori Swordlord prestige class are considered those sworn to this pact? Does this mean Hana should be Hana Aldori now?

Played a little bit of Crusader Kings 2 this weekend (got a weird urge to do so) while simultaneously listening to some history stuff on YouTube, all of which has got me to thinking about some things. First, it appears that medieval Russia really did not have the insane amount of noble ranks that the rest of Europe suffered with. It looks like the titled nobility only had three levels: prince, count (known as boyars in some places), and baron, with the latter two evidently being created by Peter the Great. (This does clash with the numerous references I've found to "grand dukes" ... although that might have just been a different name for prince in this context.) So if that's the case, then Andrei totally needs to become known as the Prince of Ravens (since his heraldic symbol is a raven) because that is just so damned cool-sounding. Magman is probably the only person who gets that Wheel of Time reference. Second, and far more importantly, Andrei does not have a proper heir so if he dies in the course of gameplay, the Shieldlands could have a serious problem. At the moment, I think that, if we use most traditional European succession laws, if one of his older sisters has a child, that child is currently his heir ... and I don't think that we've established whether he does have a nephew or niece. I currently lean toward no based simply on his mother's obsession with him marrying and having children. With that in mind, following Lady Liliya's ... let's call it "sidestep" of the marriage thing, I think that Andrei has actually grown a little concerned (likely brought on by some of the constant concern from members of his Council) as well as a bit frustrated. On one hand, he completely understands Lady Liliya’s desire to go slow and get to know her future spouse (she's a stranger to him as well!), but on the other, she’s basically started their relationship by manipulating him (the ‘what’s your favorite season? Let’s delay getting married until then’) which is probably the wrong foot to start off on. While he can admire the quick-thinking that resulted in this, as the Ruler, he's started to have some doubts and questions. I figure these issues have really solidified during the time away from the capital (five or six days, I think?), so with that in mind, he's planning on having a conversation with her when they get back where he's going to lay everything out before her and ask again if she's opposed to this marriage (since she's actively gone out of her way to ensure a fairly lengthy delay here.) He's going to be as calm and reasoned and as polite as he can manage during this conversation but for the stability of the realm, he likely can't put off this marriage for most of a year, not with his career as an adventurer wherein he could die 'on campaign' at any time. If she has a legitimate reason for wanting to delay - FREX, "I'm sorry, my lord, but I distrust my sister's husband's desire for this alliance for X reason" or "Forgive me, my lord, but I had a lover and I wished to ensure that I was not with child..." or hell, "I am a lover of women, my lord" - then Andrei is entirely fine with considering the marriage pact voided and would see to it that she's provided a proper escort to Drelev along with the return of the dowry in full ... but yeah. As the Ruler worried about the stability of the realm, he needs to look to his duty to sire legitimate sons (or daughters since this is D&D where they're not as bothered by gender roles)... So I think that he's likely going to have been somewhat distracted of late (which probably plays into his frustration at what he considers unnecessary deaths, even for bandits.) Right now, I think the only other character who would really understand this highborn thinking process is Casimir (he's highborn, yeah?) since we've got an elven wizard who doesn't understand humans, three lowborn adventurers (two of which aren't even native Brevic citizens) and an Aasimar whose actual social status is unclear to me, and the problem with discussing this with Cas is simple: the paladin is not a member of our court... Although honestly, I still halfway expect poor Liliya to get assassinated immediately following the wedding so Drelev has a reason to go to war with us. Just not sure if Drelev will be responsible for the murder or tricked. Which reminds me: we completely forgot to do the Knowledge (nobility) check to see what Andrei knows about Drelev himself...

With that in mind, following Lady Liliya's ... let's call it "sidestep" of the marriage thing, I think that Andrei has actually grown a little concerned (likely brought on by some of the constant concern from members of his Council) as well as a bit frustrated. Do remember, your council is made up of a ton of people with very little knowledge of running a kingdom in and of itself, most may not even realize the potential problem of a king dying sans an heir, otherwise they may put you in a bubble and never let you leave On one hand, he completely understands Lady Liliya’s desire to go slow and get to know her future spouse (she's a stranger to him as well!), but on the other, she’s basically started their relationship by manipulating him (the ‘what’s your favorite season? Let’s delay getting married until then’) which is probably the wrong foot to start off on. "I'm sorry, my lord, but I distrust my sister's husband's desire for this alliance for X reason" This is the excuse she's used by you, which has seemed reasonable. It isn't that she doesn't trust the alliance, per-say, but her and her sister have never been on particularly good terms and never communicated, until recently where it was "Hey, we want you to marry this guy you've never heard of in a kingdom far away".... she's..... uncertain of you, the kingdom, her sister, her brother in law, and everyone - and she does seem clever and relatively quick witted enough to try to avoid letting people get the best of her. As the Ruler worried about the stability of the realm, he needs to look to his duty to sire legitimate sons (or daughters since this is D&D where they're not as bothered by gender roles)... Any heir would work, in my mind for this campaign setting, the last name of the more powerful family is typically the one kept in marriage - or, at the very least, used as part of the negotiation Which reminds me: we completely forgot to do the Knowledge (nobility) check to see what Andrei knows about Drelev himself... Roll it and I'll let you know.

Baron Hannis Drelev was a Brevic nobleman of some note with connections to both Issia and Rostland. He took a large group of soldiers and diplomats to the area known as The Slough and began to attempt a colonization effort (in what is now Fort Drelev). He is married to Baroness Pavetta Orlovsky-Drelev. Both are known to be fairly good at politics, though Pavetta is more skilled in it.

Rolled a 7 on HP. Gained a feat this level which will end up being Toughness. This pushes his maximum HP to 97 (!) That Smite Evil ability he gained is also going to be pretty awesome; presuming he's got Power Attack activated (which is almost default these days), that puts his default attack/damage to +13/+8 with 1d+13 with AC 23. If I smite evil, this jumps to +15/+10 with 1d8+22 and AC 25. If that evil bad guy is an outsider with evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature, his first attack against it inflicts 1d8+31 (!) with all remaining attacks doing the 1d8+22 ... until the enemy is dead or the next time I rest (which, for someone with a ring of sustenance, is pretty sweet.)

Now that he's married, Andrei is looking at creating his own knightly order, likely to be the Order of the White Raven, once I figure out specifics and the like. I am currently leaning toward knighting Casimir Petrov (our general), Kesten Garess (our warden), and Loy Rezbin (our royal enforcer) first once the Order is established as they're our warrior-types in the realm...
