The Wyrmsmoke Mountains shook with the thunder of ten thousand screaming hobgoblin soldiers. From the phalanx emerged a single champion. One by one the tribes fell silent as the warlord rose up, blue scales gleaming along his shoulders, horns swept back from his head. A hundred bright yellow banners stood beneath him, each marked with a great red hand. He stood upon a precipice and raised his arms. "I am Azarr Kul, Son of the Dragon!" The Warlord bellowed. "Hear me! Tomorrow we march to WAR!"
OK, someone else already started a thread on character creation. With the above information, you should have some clues about what your going to be doing. Here are some more.
1. There will be some outdoors stuff 2. There will be some dungeoning stuff 3. There will be some battles
The group would be well served to have a Cleric, Ranger, and a Rogue, or classes that display some form of those class abilities. I had a conversation with Rigil Kent about the Leadership feat. If you want it, take it. Your "cohort" at 6th level will be a single 4th level NPC to be determined after all characters have been generated. If no one plays a Cleric, the cohort will be a Cleric. If no one plays Fighter, he'll be a Fighter. Get the picture? If you take the Leadership feat, you better have a good explanation and back story for it such as:
"I served with the Knights of Furyondy along the border. It was only a season, but I watched the Knights and Squires with interest as they led men into battle. Untested as I was in the arts of war, I did not always understand what or why they did certain things. However, I remembered it all. Now, after having gained experience in battle, and understanding what it takes to be a leader, I think I can lead men into battle..." Jenkins Highstaff, Warrior
If it's good enough, I may even give you some reputation to go with your Leadership Score.
"Do you know who I am? I am Jenkins Highstaff, liberator of the Keep on the Borderlands, and slayer of High Priest Mizac ul Goff."
"Your reputation precedes you, mighty Warrior Jenkins Highstaff. However, your ale still costs just as much as everyone elses..."
For those who want to know WHEN in the time line we'll be playing in Greyhawk, it'll be before the Greyhawk Wars.
Lets be ready to start playing by 7:00pm SHARP. Kewl?

Heh. You asked for it, buddy...
Sir Aethelric, son of Aethelstan
Called “Ric” by his friends, he is the youngest of four brothers born to Lord Aethelstan of Linth (who is often disparagingly thought of as nothing more than a hopped-up mercenary). As the youngest son, he grew up knowing that nothing of his father’s domain would go to him upon the Lord’s demise and swore to himself that he would not die a pauper as so many other sons of nobility.
Squired to Duke Eddard (who was in something of disfavor with his brother the king), Ric quickly became the duke’s favorite squire due to his dedication and focus. Part of Ric’s training to become a knight included his learning the duties of a nobleman; an indifferent poet and a not particularly witty young man, he discovered that he could excel at dancing when he applied combat tactics to the curiously regimented “entertainment”. During this time, he befriended a younger acolyte of Heironeous named Erland; it was a friendship that would stand the test of time.
In his sixteenth year, Ric earned his spurs several years earlier than he should have when an incident involving the duke’s daughter, Elayne, nearly resulted in his death. The young lady had a reputation for being spirited and more interested in the manly arts (riding, archery, etc.) not to mention a particularly arrogant sensibility about her. As a result, the various squires of the duke rotated duties as to who would be “assigned” to what they called “Princess Duties” in an effort to “spread the misery”. During one such rotation in which Ric was her escort, Lady Elayne took a fast horse into the woods surrounding her father’s estate with Ric hard-pressed to catch up to her (she was a good rider!) Unfortunately, she was not as familiar with the terrain as she thought and this led to an accident that crippled her horse; Ric was forced to put the beast to the sword before beginning the return trip with a distraught and sobbing Lady Elayne in his saddle as he walked alongside her. It was in that moment that a band of goblin skirmishers happened upon them and Ric reacted without thought.
Drawing his sword, he slapped his horse with it and charged forward to meet the goblins, hoping that his suicidal attack upon them would give the duke’s daughter time to escape. It was a hard fight, one that very nearly claimed his life, but he slew all of the goblins before passing out from his injuries. Duke Eddard, who had grown concerned at how long his daughter and Ric had been absent, met the girl as she charged from the woods along with his weaponsmaster and several knights. They discovered a badly wounded Ric, leaning against a tree surrounded by dead goblins. Impressed by the young man’s fortitude and heroic actions, he knighted him a tenday later (when Ric had recovered from his wounds).
Equipped with a title (as minor as it might be), Ric rode out to find his destiny. It wasn't entirely due to a sense of duty – Lady Elayne had got it into her head that she and “Sir Aethelric the Goblynslayer” should be wed and, despite how much Duke Eddard approved of the young knight, he was clearly an inferior match (being of lesser nobility). Ric, who had already determined this, impressed the canny duke yet again when he requested of Lord Eddard to be released from service so he could ride out to find his place in the world.
Impressed with a rigid moral code by his grim father and the equally unrelenting Duke Eddard (Lawful Neutral), Ric can - on occasion - be a difficult man to be close to. He is a plainspoken man who prefers to be in the company of soldiers than with nobles. It is because of this, however, that he finds himself in good stead with the common man as he has few of the pretensions of higher nobility.

Ludgar of ShibbolethOnly son of a free-peasant tradesman from Shibboleth, with an air of "peasant-nobility" that he passed on to his son. Ludgar was made a page to [Lord], a local hero, when he came of age. He lived and trained with him for a time, where he made several friends of other youngsters in [Lord]'s retinue or employ, including a brother & sister who were the children of a family-friend, employed by [Lord] as servants. [Lord] was strict but fair, and Ludgar learned much about fighting, intended to work his way up to squire, and later knight. At some point, due to circumstances Ludgar had no knowledge of, [Lord] showed an uncharacteristic moment of kindness and fear, and informed Ludgar that his father had been accused of a terrible crime and thrown into prison. His mother had also disappeared, and [Lord] believed her to have fallen victim to the same misfortune as his father. [Lord] gave Ludgar some gear and told him to run away and never look back, lest he succumb to the same misfortune as his parents. Ludgar traveled for a time, and signed on with a mercenary company, hoping to earn enough money to make something of himself, and possibly return one day to find the truth about his parents' fates, although he feared to return...anything that caused [Lord] to be afraid was certainly worthy of his fear as well. He served with the same company for many years, and fought several battles. Although he never truly "distinguished" himself, he fought well enough to rise in the ranks. In his first battle, he fell and was nearly left for dead, were it not for his girlfriend-at-the-time, who managed to nurse him back to health. After the incident, the two agreed they should split up, lest he make a widow of her. He swore he wouldn't make the same mistake twice, but fate often has other plans, and he found himself involved again. However, a new campaign drew him away for years at a time, and on each return, they found that they had both drifted apart. His goal in life is to personally kill something "exceptional," to prove to himself that he is ready to return to his home and deal with the family situation, expecting the worst. (Random-rolled, using GMRT(Characters))
