I've been giving the idea of the "Last Man Standing" meta-game a lot of thought, recently. As fun as that may/not be, I haven't been able to come up with any sort of suitable "reward" for winning anything, short of the personal satisfaction of having won (as little as that's worth).
Extra XP would work, but it won't make "story" sense to dump a bunch of points into the character for no in-game reason. The "trophy" never got anyone's attention, thus far. I thought about an "I survived the alien apocalypse" t-shirt or something—not sure if anyone would want that. The best I can think of is something like the "achievements" thing currently in-place for Dispensables—we could still do that, if everyone likes the idea, but I'd like to come up with something a bit simpler, and easier to track; definitely would want to keep it small, for the aforementioned "XP" reasons. Maybe just limit to a few conditions?
Anyone have any ideas?

I've been giving the idea of the "Last Man Standing" meta-game I'm not sure it works for this campaign at all. Last man standing would essentially mean everyone should dump every point into combat, which doesn't make sense for all of our characters. If we did last man standing in this campaign it essentially means you will be killing characters left and right. Now a 'last man standing' *DOES* make sense in Dispensables since we have dumped everything into combat and you were supposed to be trying to kill us. Our characters had very little personality, and were supposed to be... well... dispensable... The best I can think of is something like the "achievements" Well, I guess it depends on what you want the campaign to be.. realistic? goofy? etc etc... achievements just don't seem to make sense to me in a 'realistic' campaign... whereas they fit perfectly into the Dispensables campaign, as it is more of a 'movie-esque' setting... so... I guess this is a long winded way of saying I have no ideas, but I figured I'd at least throw my 2 cents out there so you know that I am not just ignoring your posts... like I normally do

Last man standing would essentially mean everyone should dump every point into combat, which doesn't make sense for all of our characters. Not exactly. It's actually a subtle, sub-conscious way of encouraging everyone to behave realistically, by trying to not get the character killed—assuming, of course, "winning" is something the Players actively want to achieve. achievements just don't seem to make sense to me in a 'realistic' campaign I refer to this as a "meta-game," because it really has nothing to do with what's going on in-game. Your point, though, is one reason I hesitate to use Achievements, at least, as they currently work. The Achievements for Dispensables also served a subtle, secondary purpose of encouraging Players to intentionally explore different aspects of gameplay in order to get this-or-that Achievement—which worked, because it's a "training" game; not so with Earthfall.Really this idea is no different than if everyone started a betting-pool re: whose character would die first—which is precisely the sort of thing I'm looking for—but what would anyone bet on it? Hence the dilemma. This is a just-for-fun thing. Obviously, if nobody thought it was fun, it wouldn't be worth pursuing.

Oh - I guess I've never tried and intentionally kill a character... Every now and then, depending on the character, they may do something 'risky'... but that may be a character trait... ie, Raegnar diving into the pit to save Krognar... I guess self preservation is always something I consider before doing something (unless I get stupid like No-Bark opening the door and almost getting himself sucked into space) I refer to this as a "meta-game," because it really has nothing to do with what's going on in-game. Maybe something you can do is relate achievements to something in game.. ie if we do well, we may 'find' a stash of weapons, food, survival gear, etc etc... and/or we could have group achievements or personal ones that give us those 'poker chip' to spend on something you determine is appropriate? but what would anyone bet on it? Hence the dilemma. This is a just-for-fun thing. Ah, yeah, I'm not much of a betting person myself (at least with anything material), but that's just me
