During character creation, several players handed me a "completed" character sheet- missing a few items that I filled in for them. Here is the rundown:
Babs the Fighter- aka the 'One-Armed-Mini'- Gonna be kinda hard to reload your pistols with only one hand...
Jiselle the Quiet One Bard- (sung to the tune of New Kids on the Block) Ohhh oh oh oh. The Quiet One.
Kalam, the Morally Ambiguous Lawful something Cleric of Morrow. "Come. Let me share with you the pain of healing!!!"
Reinfred- Iosian Souless Elf- no wait. Human? Yeah. But blind. Umm, thats not right. "at some point during this campaign, I want to get my eyes ripped out and a mekanical set of low light eyes installed..."
Tyris- The Guild is Mother, the Guild is Father, I'm the Guilds' Bee-itch. Human Wizard
Zagok the Ogrin Barbarian. "Me like Rocks and getting kicked in the head". Typical Esque. 'Nuff said.
The characters got flushed out and we plunged straight into an "Escort/Ambush" encounter with a tribe of Swamp Goblins. After loosing a couple horses and some supplies, our intrepid hero's drove the Goblins away. While searching the dead Gobber bodies, a strange bellows like device is found, and it looks like this is what was generating the fog the Gobbers ambushed the party in. The Caravan Master, Gunner Wadock, isn't happy, but he leads the group to Corvis.
Gunner takes the group to see Father Pandor Dumas, a Cleric of Morrow and Prelate to all of Corvis. Gunner pays each of the PC's 25gp for Services Rendered and tells them if they seek further employment, then come to his estates. He then leaves.
Father Dumas is a kindly figure and freely offers to tend to the wounded. He extends the hospitality of the Church for the night. The party voices there intentions to scatter to the four winds when the good father looks troubled and asks if the players-
"Could look into a matter of some troubling events within the City,"
The Hero's eagerly gather around Father Dumas as he relates the theft of several bodies around the city. He describes how seven bodies have turned up missing over the past month. None of the bodies have been recovered, and his hands are tied- he must attend to the Churches need. The Father hands over a slip of paper with five names and addresses (or what passes for addresses) of some of the victims' families. He hopes these will assist in the investigation. After some more questions by the party, Father Dumas thinks the victims may have been somehow connected to the Witch Trials of 10 years ago, be he seems very reluctant to say any more on the subject.
Babs notices a beautiful young girl in white watching the exchange from a balcony and asks Father Dumas who she is.
"She is my Ward and Niece, Alexia. Her mother died during the troubles I spoke of earlier,"
Despite the protests by Babs, Father Dumas will not let her speak with Alexia.
"She is too young and impressionable, and it is getting late,"
Father Dumas speaks no more of the tragedy that befell Alexia's mother, or of the Witch Trials of 10 years ago.
He implores the hero's to find out whats going on. He offers the Gratitude of the Church of Morrow, as well as small medallions to help with their investigations. Reinfred looks a little uncomfortable taking the medallion.
Kalam offers his help with anything the Church may need, and Father Dumas thanks him, but tells him it is important that this task be accomplished, and quickly.
The evening closes with several members traveling to Bodak's Blades, a Weapon Shop, on the way to Buccaneer's Bass, an Inn recommended by Father Dumas.
Tyris attempts to make contact with the local Fraternal Order of Wizardy. They very abruptly turn him away after he fails to give them the "secret hand shake and password". There is more to this Guild than Tyris realizes, and visions of the entire building in flames momentarily cross his mind. In deep thought, he fails to notice the young woman in white watching him from an alley across the way. Tyris then leaves to rejoin the rest of the party.
A scene from next weeks adventure...
"Why, thank you. Tha's surely a good drink! It gets'em pretty cold and lonely out here at night digging graves. Ahhh, thats tha' gewd stuff. Anywho, where was I? Oh yeah, so's I was out making my wages if yer knowing what I'm meaning... <belch> oh! 'Cuz me! Mind if I take another sip? Tha'k ya lad! Strangest thing I saw the other night.
