Okay, so new question. Based on what the group mostly leaned toward - working for a company instead of doing it themselves - I'd originally planned on the PCs not really "owning" their starship (or rather not having to deal with payments on one.) However, three of the PCs did end up with a Ship Share (which is MCr1 toward a ship) which leads to the question: do we want to revise that? Do you, as a party, want to have your own ship that you may "lease" to LFC (maybe to get a better deal or reduce your monthly payments or maybe even remove them entirely ... while you work for LFC)?
How do we want to proceed in that regard?

Could be partners in the parent company

How do we want to proceed in that regard? Could be the ship is currently owned and operated by, Lothrian for now. We are in the process of becoming independent? The ship is titled under Lothrian, but we are invested in it for future ownership? I am likely way outside the line, because I am not entirely sure I understand the concept of shares. Sounds like I own part of an uber car, and get part of the profit should it make money. But, I am not fully liable should the car crash. And if the principle owner want the car back they have to pay me some part of the value of the car. Something like that?

because I am not entirely sure I understand the concept of shares. Right. I should explain that. The way the rules-as-written (RAW) work in this case is that each ship has a purchase price which you divide by 240 to determine the amount that must be repaid each month for the next 40 years. Ship shares are 1 million credits apiece and you deduct that from the initial purchase price. So, FREX, if we go with the Hikari-class general transport, this ship has a purchase price of MCr63.55 (63,549,500 to be precise based on my ship designer spreadsheet). If three PCs has 1 ship share apiece, the purchase price would be presumed to be MCr60.55 instead (which comes to 252,289.58/mo ... which is eyebleedingly brutal - I'm certain I'm overlooking something there. A used ship isn't going to be as expensive, I'd think.) Does that make sense? ETA: It's entirely possible the group as a whole may say "Nah, bro. We don't want that kind of trouble" and stick with "working for the Man." I'm cool either way. ETA2: Aha! Older ships are discounted. FREX, a ship that's 11-20 years old has a 15% purchase discount and 2 rolls on the Spacecraft Quirks table...

I think having our own ship is kind of out of the question at this point. We just got started and we don't have a lot of cash. How long have we been working for Lothrian when the campaign opens? Maybe we start out as grunts but it could be something we work towards the more badass we get. Can we "save" our ship shares and when we are ready to make a down payment on a ship we can cash in then.

Can we "save" our ship shares and when we are ready to make a down payment on a ship we can cash in then. Using RAW, I don't think so. In general, Traveller presumes the PCs have a ship and a mortgage on that ship, which is the primary drive for "adventure" - to make money to make the ship payment. If we decide that the crew isn't going to start with a ship, the three who rolled "Ship Share" as a benefit will need to reroll.

Okay, got it. I'm fine with being the masters of our own destiny and having a ship if that's what everyone wants to do. If not, then re-roll is fine with me as well. Would it be easier on the GM if we had our own ship or not in terms of writing adventures...or does it matter?

I do not have a preference either way hence me leaving it up to the group.

I think ship shares can be made to work, but rerolling it is probably going to be easier in the long run

Working for the Man sounds Fine to me, I have no ship shares and no stake in making payments or ownership and would just like to get a monthly pay.
Would I still be working for the ship owners?
I am ok with what is decided.

I am ok with keeping with our original plan, not to be ship owners, but employees with the established company. I am also ok with re-rolling, or taking the cash equivalent. (By cash equivalent, I mean whatever the cash would have been for the roll that would have awarded the share(s)).

Cash Equivalent would be a million credits, but I don't think that the GM would allow that and why large cash sums are converted to a ship share. I'm fine with re-rolling.

In this case, I think what he meant (and he can correct me if I'm wrong) is taking the same number on the Mustering Out Benefits roll but from Cash instead of Benefits. FREX, CJ was an Agent (Intelligence) and has 1 Ship Share from rolls. That's a 3 on the Agent Mustering Out Benefits table, which translates to Cr5000. (Quite a difference.) It currently looks like we're leaning toward "No Ship" and "Possible reroll" - I'm cool with that as it affects three PCs (Anya, Ephraim, & Ilya). If you just want to do as CJ suggested and take the Cash Benefit from that roll, that'd mean Anya gets Cr2000, Ephraim gets Cr2000, and Ilya gets Cr5000. If you want to go otherwise, that's a 1d6 roll.

In my opinion, as far as I understand the style of campaign, ship shares as a "I happen to have a share in XYZ ship which brings me in 2d6 × 1000CR a month but otherwise does not impact the game" do make sense. Whereas the ship shares being in the ship we are on make less sense as we aren't seeking going independent, I doubt bossman would like it, and it creates a de facto hierarchy in the ship that I'm not sure we want.
On a side note, I'll need to work on thinking out my characters motivation as well as the motivations of the larger group as well. It is no fun as a player or GM to feel like we are being led by the nose as the players aren't self-actualized enough to do things on their own.

So.... does our ship have the neural linkage? Ya'll didn't get a ship, remember? Remember the specifics for equipment; you may end wanting to buy weaponry that has that ... although, the cyber stuff is pretty new to you, so you might not and then pick it up later? Up to you.
