Not really. You can't change the random seed after it's generated, so you can't change the numbers rolled. Don't forget that if you add a die in between the others, it will not be a new roll—has to be added at the end.

Corabelle was the captain of the pirate ship, The Mermaid’s Song, which she inherited after an elf killed her greasy bastard of a husband. Unfortunately she lost her crew and ship during a heavy and severe storm. She is now frequently found with her pet hawk at The Lynched Fellow tavern. She's equally skilled with dagger and insult, and it's hard to know which cuts deeper. Though she claims she’s all rogue, it’s difficult to believe she doesn’t have any spell casing ability to keep her obvious attributes in place as she’s bouncing around the room before shanking enemies in the back. Just as improbable; she refers to herself as a duelist, meaning that she retains some honor and code of conduct during combat. Don’t believe her, this is a lie. She uses innuendo and inefficient combat style wardrobe to live her life as a roguey-ninja-pirate-smuggler. But seriously, we really know she’s doing that because of her unresolved issues with her mother who sold her for a goat and a few coins.

May I presume this character is causing the husband to grind his teeth? lol Maybe I should play the angsty, tortured, whiny, elf guy who hates all mages.

No, I was joking by doing a caricature/satire of Isabele from Dragon Age (mermaid song = siren's call, the lynched fellow =the hanged man, she has a pet hawk(e), I couldn't think of a character story because her character kept getting in my head so I figured if I wrote it down I can clear the slate so to speak. Real character is below...

Her parents named her Corabelle, though to you she might be Nala, Shani, Jeble, or Elmip. It all depends on where you live and what alias she decides to adopt at that time. Corabelle is a whisper gnome with the strange habit of living quietly among human towns and colonies working as an emissary to help improve the relations between humans and the small clans of other whisper gnomes. Sometimes those clans of gnomes decide to get together and cause havoc to human villages. After the problem has been identified Corabelle will wait until the humans become desperate to accept her services. And sometimes she identifies the problem before a cause could be determined; just because she wants seem helpful. She will go to the head of the human hierarchy (whatever title they may possess) and present her arrangement. She could make that unruly clan of whisper gnomes go away; of course it would require a fee. Corabelle would know that at this time, the head of the human hierarchy would scrutinize her and her claimed abilities. She knows that he would remember her appearing to him as if out of thin air; her stealth unmatched. He would mentally weigh the glitter of his gold against her glitter of weapons that hang from her sides. And as if by his own surprise he would realize that even though she carries the air of a whisper gnome, she certainly wasn’t as cold or suspicious. She seemed genuine in wanting to solve his problem. Corabelle would then know that she would soon have the jingle of gold for company as she set off to deal with those pesky Whisper Gnomes. Now, if anyone was constantly following Corabelle you would notice a few things. The first being that her quiet entrance to a village in which she decides to settle in would be plagued by whisper gnomes within several weeks. The similarities between the bands of whisper gnomes that plague the land would certainly be remarkable. And if anyone was truly paying attention they would notice that the quiet whisper gnome that lived at the edge of town would disappear soon after the gnome problem went away, only to reappear somewhere else. So as Corabelle went off to meet her clan to deliver the gold and decide where to wreak havoc next, your realization would now be perfectly clear. Sometimes it is difficult to be a Whisper Gnome. True, your stealth and skill is clearly unmatched; however it can make you underestimate the abilities of others. To Corabelle, humans are creatures to be bested, robbed from their money of which they so willingly give. Sometimes she forgets that humans can be intelligent and word can travel from place to place to beware of the whisper gnome who comes to live in your village, takes your money, and leaves without a trace. And sometimes Corabelle makes mistakes in the art of strategy, like forgetting that she’s already offered her services to that town once before. So now Corabelle decides that she needs to lay low for a while. Not for long, for humans are forgetful, but long enough to go away for a while, and come back with pockets full from adventure. Also, something to think about...you are first level...the amount of minutia you will have accomplished up until this point might be the equivalent of being a moisture farmer, or low level smuggler.
not that I don't enjoy a deep back story, I just think you might be thinking a bit to lofty for your level...

I can scale it back if you think it needs to be done but I tried to think of a situation that pretty much the average joe could do. She's basically a low-level grifter, so instead of her clan causing havoc on whole towns, they could target unremarkable individuals instead for a few coins. I also pointed out that she was probably in over her head because she made some pretty rookie/stupid mistakes and therefore had to go on this adventuring quest to get the heat off her. Or she could be going because targeting unremarkable individuals for a few coins wasn't cutting it and she's setting off for bigger rewards through adventures. Is that better?

We're all guilty of this at some point, but the thing is, 1st level characters are just starting out in their adventuring careers. They haven't done much of anything to warrant intense back stories centered around themselves - think of them as having just graduated high school. Only rare individuals have done crazy stuff like backpacking across Europe, or spending a summer in Death Valley.
If you apply actual D&D "logic" to your backstory, your character should be around 3rd or 4th level, having successfully grifted a reasonable number of locales in the past. At 1st level, she should more likely be undertaking (or have undertaken) her very first solo grift or mission where she's "on point."
Factoring in the clan also brings some serious questions - why wouldn't they participate during your adventures? It would be easier, I think, if she did something she shouldn't have and pissed them off, or perhaps she decided to keep the money from her first actual grift (thus explaining how she acquired her starting wealth) and cut ties with them because they didn't have the grand vision she had.
Another thing, are you looking at being a sneaky second-story type of rogue or a bullshiter? Because "grift" kind of implies that you dazzle someone with a story and arrange for them to give you their money without them realizing its a con. I'm presuming - and correct me if this is wrong - that with your CHA assigned to 13 and DEX 17, you're not really thinking about be the silver-tongued type but rather the person who scales the wall to steal stuff, right? Wrong?
Just some thoughts...

I guess, since we're going to have two rogues in the group, now, we should probably look into how we're going to either work together, or split up the roguely duties.

2 and a half actually. My Beguiler has some minor thief abilities, but he's not going to be anywhere near as good as either of you in that regard.

LabRat—did you look at the Swashbuckler core class?

Sorry, I didn’t think that background stories would be so true to a character’s level. For example, Jocelyn’s background story would have been fitting a 1st level character instead of a 10th level but there was never a suggestion that she should have more experience because of her level. I just assumed that if it fit the spirit of the quest then it would work.
No, it was not my intent to have a silver tongued devil. However, a CHA score of 13 for a Whisper Gnome is pretty darn good so Corabelle was made as the “face” for her clan, since she was essentially the best of the worst. She did do some small time grifting but since some mishaps were made due to her nativity/inexperience, she thought it best to break apart from the clan since she would be the recognizable one (and so she wouldn’t put her clan in danger) and go questing while getting the heat off her. My plan was during her adventure she would quickly learn that she really sucked at what she was doing and would then come into her own as a sneaky rogue.
However, since I’ve had two people point out that I’m trying to ram a square peg into a round hole, I’m scrapping it and trying something new: So we will start with Corabelle, just barely into adulthood, living underground in an extremely isolated/xenophobic clan. Her mother and father warn her of going “above” and speak how terrible others are that are not of her kind. Of course Corabelle would contract a terrible case of Disney Princess Syndrome and want to more about what is up above her and so sneaks off when her parents are doing some sort of parent-y thing (I don’t know, maybe going on a raid or something). Corabelle reaches the surface and is surprised about what she sees. She starts exploring and finds a cave, of course she goes to inspect it. It is about that time there is a convenient cave-in which of course traps her inside. She starts calling for help, hoping one of her clan can hear her (she’s not that far away). After a time she hears the scraping of moving rock and realizes that someone is coming to her aid. She is relived when she sees daylight once again but is terrified that her rescuer is a Dwarf. The Dwarf stares at her for a few moments as if weighing something in his mind, and then decides to pull her out and dust her off. He gives her some water and simply tells her to go home. Corabelle is frozen for a time and then flees to the safety of her dwelling. After a while Corabelle is starting to second guess her parent’s teachings and starts asking questions, naturally because the Dwarf not only didn’t harm her but actually saved her life. Her parents severely cut off her queries because they would hear none of it. Corabelle is left confused and wanting more (because the secondary infection of Disney Princess Syndrome is a bitch) and so decides to run away and see if the world is really like. And therefore starts her adventure pure as the freshly driven snow.
Do you have a preference on how you want to do this? I would like to find a way to work together and just share the duties so that my first roguey experience is a complete one. And just because I’m curious why would someone be a ranged rogue instead of a ranger? I mean I guess you get the sneak attack but are there any other major reasons or is it just preference?
As you pointed out, for now I think it is a moot point since we have two fully functional rogues. However, if both of us get kacked then we’ll have to do some reassigning.
No, should I?

Just for completeness' sake, I suppose. It's a light/finesse melee class, like the rogue, but without the rogue stuff—if you're concentrating on the melee, that might be a good one. Depends what you really want out of the character. Not trying to push you out of the Rogue slot. There's no reason two Rogues in the party can't either work together at the same time, or alternate duties, or whatever. What it comes down to, though, is "spotlight time"—if picking locks (as a non-specific example) is your "thing," then it takes away from your spotlight time when someone else picks a lock; that's the only time there would be a conflict. So, really, it's a matter of figuring out what your "thing" is, and making sure I'm not stealing your thunder. Don't sweat the story too much—it's really not that big of a deal. Probably all of us have made the same sort of "mistake" at some point in our early gamer experience. If you like the old story, stick with it. If you want to scale it back to make it more appropriate, do that. It really is unlikely to affect the game, either way.

You could always use the ever reliable stand-by: level drained by undead critters and unable to get access to restoration spells before it became permanent level drains.

Instant character tie-in. When she decides to go adventuring, she actively seeks out that Dwarf and follows him around for a while. Eventually, they become friends.
