In that case, if I'd thought about it, a Diplomacy check would have been in order. Normally, he wouldn't have wanted to outright murder the guy, but he was so furious that he wasn't thinking straight ... so we'll do a minor retcon and say that what happened was exactly that: Jareth took a quick 10 on a Diplomacy check and succeeded (since Sir Gyrad was Friendly already.) Voila.

I've already updated the Loot sheet with the gear of the Aspis Consortium officers (and Captain Esteban.) I've also included some miscellaneous treasures that were seized from the dead officers and loaded aboard the River Queen. There were also nine survivors of the original group of mercenaries who have pledged allegiance to House Devreaux. Most of them will need names: - Tiora - who doesn't need a name. She's a roguely type.
- Family Man (who will obviously be bringing his family under Aria's aegis as well - the wife might serve as a maid.)
- The Gambler
- Ladies Man
- Penitent Man
- Quick Talker
- Squaddie - he's also effectively assumed command as the "captain" because he spent the most time with Esteban, learning how the boat works.
- Silent Man
- The Veteran
Aria may also want to assign some of them official "jobs" according to the Household rules over on the Portals (I figure that Jareth is probably perceived as her "maester"...) Disposition of the River Queen - Sir Gyrad agreed with Jareth that Lady Devreaux was within her rights to seize it as the Consortium failed to operate in good faith. He recommends that you seek an arbiter once in Korvosa to get a good ruling in your favor. Also, prior to your departure, Solnia (the halfling woman) will approach Aria when she (Aria) is alone and beg her leave to accompany you back to Korvosa. She will swear allegiance as well and is an excellent cook. You get the feeling that she's utterly and completely miserable here and has been beaten into abject submission by life. Finally, I'm thinking about changing the XP system because the core D&D XP system is krunked. PCs advance way too fast, so I'm thinking of using the "Slow XP Progression" found on p30 of the Pathfinder book. I'd do the necessary conversion over on the Spreadsheet so you won't lose any levels or anything (essentially, I'd figure out the % and convert.) Thoughts? Feedback? Sounds good to me. I will give them names/positions tomorrow when I have free time at work. Aria will seek out an arbiter once they get back to Korvosa. Aria will let Solnia work in her household, she has kept her end of the bargain, and I think Solnia would rather join us than be opposed to us. Aria will probably sympathize with the "beating into abject submission by life"-bit. I don't have a problem with slowing down the xp, providing we don't have to take a step backwards level-wise. Though I was looking forward to 6th level...I was going to get some really neat-o stuff.

So here are the names of the nervous nine:
Tiora Family Man- Cale Valeborn Family Man's wife- Tylsie Valeborn Gambler- Silus Wright Ladies Man- Adric Valtere Penitent Man- Jarvis Trilaw Quick Talker- Lysander Milner Squaddie- Willem Arroway Silent Man- Markus Daylen Veteran- Braum Ainsley
As for their positions...well..I am having a bit of trouble considering that the typical positions in a manor (groomsmen, footmen, valet, etc) aren't really needed right now (mostly because she doesn't have means to have all the luxuries that would need people to fill these roles). Plus there isn't a guarantee that these men have the knowledge to perform their duties for any given role. I think that as long as Aria can depend on them to make an odd errand (here, deliver this message for me) and get the door when the bell rings, then she will be fine with them sticking around as her vassals. There are some roles however that can be assigned:
Maester- Jareth Cook- Solnia Maid- Tylsie (if Cale and Tylsie have any daughters that are old enough, they can also serve as a maid and promote Tylsie to Housekeeper) Castellan- Baxter Master-At-Arms- Braum
I am taking liberties with the titles of Castellan and Master-at-Arms. Baxter doesn't really fit the role as butler even though that is what Aria perceived him to be, so think of him as a general manager of things while Aria is away. Since Braum is the veteran, Aria puts him in charge of the other vassals, and he can instruct other members to hone their skills or learn new techniques.

What day was every PC born (or at least, what day do they claim be the day of their birth)? You can totally random it using dice=12 and dice=30 for the month and day.
BTW, I tweaked the calendar a bit. 12 months of 30 days each. Each month has 3 weeks with 10 days per week.

upon return to Korvosa, Mardak will start his training again, wanting to build up his ability to master the finesse of the Elven Thinblade...as well as try to help his reputation, and counteract the effect his "cursed self" has on people, by helping out those that need help... kinda the "do gooder" "robin hood" type...without the stealing, just come to peoples aid...sometimes sticking my nose where it doesn't belong...
I will also be working with my sister and see what i can do to help her with getting her Noble House of Devreaux back to it's former glory and place of power in the kingdom
as well, i would like to "buff" my thinblade, if possible, with either the +1 or Keen status' via utilizing some of the loot - my pref would be the Keen unless it has to go +1 first

OK, so what are your (inclusive) plans once you reach Korvosa again? Sell all of our extra stuff and probably have a [jazzhands]Shopping![/jazzhands] trip Probably need to contact Kroft or someone similar for word as to what has been going on around Korvosa since we left. See an arbiter regarding the ownership of the...well....ship Meet with Sunamon of the Aspis Consortium and give a full report of what had been going on under his nose. Threaten if/when necessary Aria's plans- Send word to Baxter that we will be having a drastic change in personnel at the house and to prepare accordingly. She will also take time to see to it that the new peeps are settled in Soon after arrival and the initial chaos has simmered down, she is probably going to go into a 24 hour fast/seclusion for meditation and practice. She probably didn't have a lot of time to do so while she was away. Seek out Galad to let him know of her return and do some catching up Continue her work with Arashikage *EDIT* OoC- I also plan on utilizing Magenko/Majinko/whatever (sp) more when we go adventuring. I keep forgetting we have him.

OK, so what are your (inclusive) plans once you reach Korvosa again? Business-as-usual, I suppose; check in w/ the clan, talk to Arashikage about new missions, training. There was also the guard/Cerulean thing which kinda died out—could get that going again.

Some peoples' stories are in motion, some are not. Aria and Jareth have a goal, and they're reacting to related developments. Some folk require an outside force to react to. Honestly—what does Mardak have to do right now? In Val's case, he lives for the mission—there isn't anything else. FWIW, I tried to get the guard/Cerulean thing going before, but you never did anything with that. There was also limited discussion of Val becoming part of Aria's household, which has also withered on the vine (the effort, not the household). (Disclaimer: Don't read a confrontational tone, here…just saying)

Some folk require an outside force to react to. Ideally, I'd like to have it so the characters drive the story, not the other way around, hence my constant "What's next for your character?" questions. Working on that. Trying to get a better grasp of his goals and motivations, etc. Which is kind of boring, actually. He's a lot like Altair in AC1 who was pretty uninspiring. I've got some things in mind, but the events are still in motion... Yeah. Let's include that in Val's planned actions ... is he going to establish cover identities? Because frankly, it's going to be hard for Val to convince the Society (providing he can track them down) to trust him given that he's been tagged as working directly for the field marshal... Well, that's not on me.

Because frankly, it's going to be hard for Val to convince the Society (providing he can track them down) to trust him given that he's been tagged as working directly for the field marshal... No point in a cover ID for the guard, since the guard commander already knows him—he'd be having to make disguise checks all the time. He'll want to be established in the guard for a while before he approaches the Ceruleans—at which point, it will require a bit of social engineering to convince them of his worth as an informant, and his willingness to do bad things to good (or just rich) people. Either that, or work for them via an alternate identity (he doesn't necessarily need to see them on a day-to-day basis, and can do "his job" under cover of darkness). That's for later, though.

I think it is more of what the PCs want to do. Rigil is operating on a "help me, help you" type of mentality. Having a more in depth campaign is more work out of character, and so some people may opt out. You could think of a lot of things to do with Mardak's character, but if ChrisIII is happy with the involvement and doesn't give much input then Rigil will turn to N8's and my wall of text. Squeaky wheel gets the grease and all. Aria would certainly welcome Val into her house if he wants to. She's kind of grown to like/respect the stoic, slightly eerie, highly effective, black man in pajamas.

You could think of a lot of things to do with Mardak's character Actually, no, I can't think of anything—it's a tough one; the player and character, both, are not especially proactive. The nice thing about Aria & Jareth is that they are proactive, and their stories go along with each others' right now; makes it easier on the GM. Given that, it would make sense to tie whatever-it-is into the "family" elements. Maybe there's something to do with the family that he can crusade for/against (that will inevitably involve a duel or two)? Someone could show up from his past, that knows something that could spell trouble for the house? There's the "curse," but I think the Player isn't interested in having it lifted. Chris needs something to work with. The GM needs something to work with. If neither of them can/will, the rest of us can always step in. Aria would certainly welcome Val into her house if he wants to. (a) It's not something he would ask for, but be asked, and (b) if the guard thing takes off, he wouldn't be able to anyway

Aria would certainly welcome Val into her house if he wants to. Ohhhh, gotcha. Well I will wait and see how this guard thing works out and then I will act accordingly, through the proper role playing. Maybe in the future Rigil can create a event that would be a segway that could lead to this (For example, Val learns information about the "darker times" of House Devreaux during one of his assassinations. He could inform Aria which would in turn avoid some catastrophe in the future). It would be much more interesting than if Aria tells Val that he fights well and would like him to join the house. Though I am just throwing out suggestions.

the player and character, both, are not especially proactive. There's your problem. Trying to put myself in Mardak's cloven shoes... Here's things he could do: 1. Pursue what happened with his birth and why he has the curse (not necessarily to lift it but to understand it) 2. Pursue beginning to make a name for himself dueling and all the issues that come with it 3. Further ingratiate himself with Aria's house and maybe begin building trust in order to split the house duties. 4. Last time we were in Korvosa, the Red Ghost made his appearance and Orisini said he has worked with him a lot in the past... investigate that! 5. Delilah was pretty much throwing herself at Mardak before... pursue it... She seems to want to be a hero... we are supposed to be heroic-ish... maybe she can be of use That's just 5 things all off the top of my head Mardak could easily do without knowing the details in an out of the character... so it seems the player just needs to be proactive to get more story

Oh, forgot to ask: is anyone going to use the lootage to "upgrade" their ancestral relic? If you decide to do so, in this case, the "sacrificed" items will be exchanged in a 1 for 1 basis. So, for example, someone taking a weapon to +1 could expend two chain shirts +1 (1250 apiece) to get the necessary +1 weapon bonus (2000gp).
