Since I've decided to encourage watching of the show by granting of CPs, it seems like a good idea to help you guys get through it.
I'm assuming you don't really care about spoilers. I'm not gonna talk about every head-scratching, fridge-logic or lack-of-research moment you'll encounter—that'd take a really long time—I'll just hit the major points that might help you get through it. It's not going to surprise you; if you think you know what's about to happen, you're probably right. I'll try not to start every entry with "this episode was really annoying because…"
My take:
Ep 01:
The back-story (first half) was tacked on after the fact, and it shows a bit; you can mostly ignore it, because they recap the important bits later. Josh is super-annoying in this ep, but he actually starts getting better reasonably quickly. The Sixers are not going to make any sense—get used to it (I still have no idea what all the Lost Boys crap is about). Guzman won't be seen again, nor will most of the kids.
Ep 02:
Here comes the troperrific "romantic rival." Again, gets less annoying as it goes on—they let the rivalry slip away for the most part as the show progresses, and Malcolm becomes a fairly solid character
Ep 03:
Memory loss episode trope
Ep 04:
One of the episodes I'm usually tempted to skip. It wants so badly to be Newt from Aliens, but it just doesn't work—just makes my teeth hurt.
Ep 05:
One of the better episodes. You actually see the ex-detective acting like an ex-detective.
Ep 06:
Originally, this one bugged me on a "science" level, but it is actually feasible that an EMP could result from a meteor explosion—OTOH, Hollywood has no idea what EMP actually does; they just think it's a magic "electronics are dead" field. Mira has a "standing in the square, yelling at the Greeks to BUUUURN TROOOOOY!" moment. Lucas is introduced in this ep, and they start showing what an asshole he is—he's such a two-dimensional, trope-laden, mustache-twirling Villain™ it's hard to take him seriously.
Ep 07:
The Scooby Doo episode; reeks of filler.
Ep 08:
Overall a decent episode, but the kids' play makes my teeth hurt; I have to FF through those parts. The second ep where Jim does some detective work.
Ep 09:
Not a terrible episode. Skye shown to be the spy, but surprise! They're holding a hostage over her—they wouldn't have the guts to make her decide to work for the enemy on her own.
Ep 10:
Lucas' annoyance level increased—the more screen-time he gets, the more irritating he gets.
Ep 11:
The corporation is a troperrific EvilCorp™, and the PMC is a troperrific bully-warrior clan—two-dimensional is giving them a bit too much credit. Nice not-quite-Nazi design. Jim turns on his super-fighter mode—where's that been? Some good season-finale moments, though.
